Ducks vs. Geese?

We may have discussed this before, but I wouldn't know. Was just talking to Jerry about the differences in ducks and geese. I know duck and goose hunting tactics differ in different regions, but do you prefer one over the other given the choice? And let's assume we're not shooting conservation knows with a 25 a day limit.
And why?

I'll take geese all day long. Just more fun to me, and I prefer eating goose over just about any duck but black ducks.

If I had only one choice it would be ducks without hesitation

Geese any day of the week, twice on Sunday too. I think my reasoning is because I have much more money invested in goose hunting that to justify it to myself I need to goose hunt more. I also like that canadas up here are much more vocal and respond much better to calls. So I like communicating with them and listening to their responses.

I may not be qualified enough to answer on the goose side. I have gone specifically for geese only a handful of tomes. Ducks however, win hands down for me.

figured this would be your response. But good sound reasoning why you prefer em

With a 15 bird early season limit and an 8 bird regular season limit it is really hard not to like goose hunting up here.

Or the fact that northern birds are stupid. I've hunted in SD and Montana.

Are you sure it's not because 2 geese will give more meat than 10 ducks?

If that was the case here, I might lean that way as well, but with a 5 early limit and a 3 regular limit the hunts are just to short. During the regular season its one maybe two flocks and your day is over. Plus shooting geese is way less challenging in my opinion.
I would have to say ducks.

They are overall stupid, but sometimes they make you earn it. Especially if you are hunting birds that have been around for awhile and every Tom, Dick and Harry has tried to hunt them.

I like both, and will usually want whichever one I'm currently not seeing much of. If I had to choose, it would definitely be ducks though.

Ducks definitely. I've been on a few goose hunts were we all limited out in half an hour. That's alright but but jump shooting ducks is just fun.

Mine and Aarons conversation began with the bitch of hunting resident geese.

When our limit was 3, I would bring an over/under and start making it challenging. In order for me to shoot, the birds had to land in the decoys and be within 25 yards of my blind. But now that the limits are the way they are, I dont discriminate nearly as much.

The first day of early season honkers is a bloodbath if you can find patterened birds that havent been messed with.

Ducks hands down just because of the variety. Around here you really never know what will come into your spread. Almost as unpredictable as Michigan.
I love goose hunting and have a ton invested but in the end, you are shooting the same bird every time. If ducks aren't moving good we always just go for geese since its a pretty easy limit.

That's not a bad idea, but I don't have OU.
75% of the places we hunt are dual purpose anyways. So, I don't have to make a choice.

I will say though, I think I could get used to sea duck hunting. Something about shooting birds out of layout boats in the middle of the ocean appeals to me.

I like hunting both. I prefer to eat ducks over geese. But I am an equal opportunity killa.
The most important thing is to have a proper gangsta hat on when you hunt them.

Really?
That scares me almost as much as pictures of TK.

Ducks hands down. Nothing like the sound of teal screaming in on you at first light. And puddler ducks are what I like to take it another step. There isn't a whole lot of enjoyment when you can stand right at the edge of the water and call scaup in that land 10-15 feet in front of you.

Ducks are horsepower. Geese are torque. I like torque better, in all things.

Yep, I've never done it. But I know it is something that I would enjoy greatly.

If I have a field where I know I can shoot geese and a marsh where I can possibly shoot ducks, I'm going with the geese. It applies the same the opposite way too.

X2, jumping is just a limit filler.
