I like frog legs but I don't know about making that drive for them  we actually have perfect weather right now to go get them. Maybe Sunday or Monday I'll get out.

i grew up on frogs. To this day I bet I've still killed more frogs than anything else. But we gigged em. Late 90's they started disappearing. Lotsa folks blamed pesticides. Who knows

They had the king of da frogs strolling across Alexander Rd by Cow Island this morning. Was afraid I'd flip the truck if I hit him. Maybe if you hurry...

Years ago when California had a 12 frog limit we hit the 833 canal (west of Gridley) just before the rice was flooded and got 198 frogs on the west side of the canal from the highway up to the Berry Patch Gun Club. Three nights later we hit the east side of the canal and gigged 240 frogs.

Right now, with the rice in, lots of frogs have left the canals and moved into the rice fields.

I frog all that area. Did a little scouting trip to the 833 this evening. Sounded like a good grip of them north of where the 833 dumps into the creek all the way up. Hitting the water tomorrow night.

So I'm assuming we are still down for the evening festivities?

I take it by some of the places those boys are sticking their hands and faces that there are no cottonmouths in California.

No Rick. We don't have cotton mouths or alligators. Think of it as "Louisiana light" all the cool stuff with out the risk of mutilation.

My biggest fear is coming noise to noise with a big ass beaver. Those fuckers can be mean as shit.

This is why I like to gig vs hand catching them.

Same fellow who suggested a slicker and sledge for cleaning small turtles used to Gallagher most of his frogs with a paddle: "no misses". Also had what looked like a miniature black wind sock with a closed pocket on the end of a long pole for those under overhangs or too far back in the lilies (hyacinths) to readily reach by boat. When they hoped in, he'd twist the pole and they were trapped. I once swatted a cottonmouth on hard ground and like to gave poor Harvey a heart attack for fear I'd broken his lucky paddle.

Here's a few from the other days frog debacle  after boat issues and securing babysitters for ISS offspring. Gaddy, Juice Box, ISS and I started frogging at about midnight at gaddys buddy's place. We ended up with 11 by 2 am and called it a night.

Must not have been a serious attempt, there are far to few frogs and not nearly enough empty beer cans.
