Sour grapes. Nobody was out to get him, they were out to win the Belmont, just like everyone else who's won it and upset Triple Crown hopes. Wouldn't be the Triple Crown if they restricted it to horses running all three. Would be the * Crown.

Was it always like that? New horses coming in for Preakness and Belmont?

You're the champion until you get beat. In order to stay on top, you have to take all comers...that's the deal.

There were actually fewer horses in the last few years to run only at the Belmont than in the earlier runnings. It's far from uncommon.

Yeah. This is true. What people don't realize or remember in that guys case is horses like Affirmed and Seattle slew... Sea biscuit.... They were goddamn freaks. Won by a mile every time. The only horse I really thought was gonna win it in recent years was War emblem. That was a fast ass horse.
