My name is Tyler Davis, I live in Lake Charles and I've always hunted lacassine and Sabine wmas, but I've recently started working in lafayette and I want to hunt the Atchafalaya but I have no idea where to start, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe a boat launch address and coordinates where to start, not trying to take someone's spot just have no clue where to start! Thanks in advance

When I lived in Lafayette, I found fair to sometimes great public hunting in the Basin, both north and south of I-10, usually by virtue of being willing and able to outwork and out navigate most of the competition. Google Earth and GPS have, of course, made the later a more level playing field for those who use them.

But you're probably the same distance or less than much of it from Lacassine NRW, which you're already familiar with.

Try Lake Martin for wood Ducks too.Never hunted the basin but I know alot of people do

Start in Butte La Rose, there is a boat launch there and a guy I worked with on the oil spill cleanup in 2010 lives there, his name is Makin and he will tell you where to go.

also take the Henderson exit go south and take the left at first light I believe and go all the way to the end and there is a boat launch

Just some coordinates that take you through the bayou, about mile onto land and up a hill that a duck has never seen in it's life.

They have some pretty good hunting down near the Charenton beach and millet point

Only thing I can add is to watch for the gators and snakes. They're bad in nc.

I usually don't worry about them I have a gun and they don't
