I'm sitting here watching mallards swarm my irrigation pond and started thinking about how far off duck season is. Even so it will be here before we know it. Figured I'd start this thread since there hasn't been many duck related threads now that were getting in to the dog days of summer. I have a few things to do to get ready so ill start a list. What do you guys have on your to do lists? Here's mine.
1.) wire up my new running lights on the boat.... I wanted to be done with the entire boat project by may but I'm a procrastinator. also need to finish painting it.
2.) rewire my trailer lights bc the stupid dog chewed the wires.
3.) obtain some more diver decoys for cheap.
4.) Texas rigging my spread
5.) steal some milk crates from behind a Waffle House... Or just buy some at tractor supply. Need something to keep the boat organized and to sit on.
6.) not a priority but id like to get me a semi auto duck gun. Tired of pumping
7.) buy a damn duck stamp prior to the night before opening day. :Lol: And maybe an extra in case a friend forgets.
That's all I can think of for now.

I found some awesome seat bases on amazon for cheap

Just add a seat and swivel and ur ready to go

My list is not to bad

1 finish storage hatches in my boat and remove gun box

2 get seat bases and new seats

3 rebrush the boat blind

4 go through all my decoys and untangle and replace Some string and weights

5 pattern my shotgun with rio blue steel and federals then buy a case

6 FIND THE DUCKS

That's pretty cool. I have a use for that. My boat has the middle bench removed so weight distribution can be a pain sometimes gettin her to plane with my little 15 horse. I could put that in the middle.

Yeah I just got a gator tail so I'm anxious to see what kind of spots I can get to compared to to the old yamahama

I have only
One real scouting plan for one of my spots that I think is gonna be sure fire.
There's a youth hunt there the weekend before opener. Gonna take the boat out fishing and just watch where the ducks are getting killed so I can get an idea of where to set up the next Saturday. After the first few weekends if the hunting is good out there word will get out and the assholes will flood in and of course the ducks will leave.
Otherwise I just have two small private swamps that I got in on late last season and another on a wma that is hit or miss. I doubt ill get to hunt as much this year as I did last with a newborn in the house and my buddy that I do the most hunting with is also going to have one. Must be something in the water around here.

I envy you guys that live in the swamp land. I apply to a lot of golf courses out on the Georgia coast sometimes I feel like its just so I can have an excuse to have a badass duck boat. Of course those jobs are hardest to get bc of location.

I actually scouted from the air last season I was flying over the wax lake outlet and atchafalya delta to go to work made it easy

Fuck, I still have to build a boat and find a motor. Ouch.

All I can think of so far for this year.

Buy a pair of lighter-weight waders.

Take the boat to fab shop and have a welder build a box around my driving light

Either paint old mallards into gaddies or buy some gadwall decoys.

Build 3 blinds on the river, brush all the other blinds, check lines on all the decoys, patch a few holes in decoys, get some barrels of corn, swap corks on all the calls, new camo netting and waterproof tarp for the boat blinds.

Finish making 1000 snow goose decoys.
Revamp my silhouette storage
clean all my layout blinds
train dogs

Find a little John boat.

Rig the thing up with lighting and brush and all that happy horseshit.

Finishing Texas rigging all of my dekes.

Buy some more dekes. Probably going to get half a dozen spoonies and half a dozen Widgeons. May get a dozen golden eyes if I hunt the Missouri some this season.

Longer stock. 13 3/4" LOP is way too short. Need about 15 1/16".

Get me a case or two of some cheap steel shot.

Repairing the waders.

Buy another 20lb anchor and 200' of 1/2" anchor line.

Buy more boolits

I gotta stock up on steel too.

As far as purchases I really need a new pair of waders
Texas rig the other half of my decoys, I go some old flambeau mallards I want to paint as redheads. I am seeing more every year and want some variety in my spread anyway. I got a kayak paddle paddle coming for the hybrid if it is unsatisfactory I will need to build a motor mount and get a trolling motor. Also need a small floating sled to tow behind the hybrid.

I just need to get my lazy ass in gear and get the 1/4 Miler's transom replaced, so I can paint up my new/ used Canada's into brant

Get the kids set up in an assembly line doing all the black and you can finish and cut in the white.

Hell yes! I did half just to see if I'd like it and it is awesome. Especially for what I hunt. Very rarely more than 5 ft deep and never need to worry about current.
