No clue why, just something I want to do. With all the jet skis around here, surely it can't be that hard to find one somebody banged up and wrecked, but the motor's fine. I've got several people out looking around. Hopefully they find something. If someone finds something soon enough, I may just try and build the Lamont II around the motor, instead of trying to find a 14' jon. I could build it to look like a camo hydroplane racing boat. It'd be awesome.

For the record, this was with a Kawasaki 440 in a 14' jon.

You do have a welder.

If The Jefferson comes into play on this project, something went bad wrong.

I've read a 500 is a good weight to power output. The bigger ones get a bit heavier for the power they make. Could be wrong just read it at one point.

I should probably go with something in the 440 range like that guy. The boats only gonna weigh 100-125 pounds or so.

That reminds me Assa, I gotta check to see if that insurance policy I took out on you during the welder build is still active.

Don't cancel the welder one just yet.

Too bad you couldn't find a screamin deal on a pair of skis like I did assa.

He would stroke out if he had to lay a saw to a $500 ski.

Pretty much.

Especially if there was a large profit to be turned on them.

If I get out with less than $500 in this boat, soup to nuts, I'll be ecstatic.

If he finds a ski with a running motor WITHOUT a trailer for $500 he's doing pretty damn good.

Have seen them much cheaper here. Once the hull is damaged most people all but give them away.

The ones I see that are given away have a blown motor.

I live just outside a resort town. There are probably 5,000 rental jet skis at places within 20 miles. Knucklehead tourists who have never been on one before come down, take them from bar to bar, and wreck them all the time. I just have to find out how to get them after they're totaled.

Met a guy hunting ducks a few years back that had done this with a fiberglass boat. Laughed my ass off when I first saw it, but it worked, at least in open water. Beware Jim, those things will clog up with grass and clam shells off the bottom in skinny water

You gotta mount a garbage disposal between the intake grate and the jet pump.

Most of what I want it for isn't really traditional "mud motor terrain". The tidal flats around here have a hard sandy bottom, weed free, but when the moon and wind conspire against you, you can have only hundreds of yards with small areas of deeper water, but over half will be 4-5". It really cuts down on the number of areas you can get to, so I find myself with the motor propped up, walking it over these shallow spots, then climbing back in and going another 20 yards, before getting out and doing the same thing. It gets old. I'm thinking this would be ideal for me, but if not, I can just pull it out, fiberglass the bottom back up, and put another motor on it.
Here's where I hunt probably 75% of the time. The red line is the path I have to take to get to the tumps I hunt. The blue line is the path I could take if this motor works out. The scale on the original map is about 1"=1/2 mile. So I'm looking at about 3 miles to the closest tump currently, vs about 3/4 mile if this idea doesn't blow up.

A tin can jon boat won"t hold up to your abuse. This might though. And this is home built.
