It's always cool to see WWII aircraft fly over. Was out picking basil in the yard when the second time in two days a B-29 flew directly over my house. I live in the city and on the flight path of the airport so whenever there is an event and military or vintage military aircraft are involved, they fly right over my house. Every summer, I see B17s or B-25s or B-29s or P-51s unexpectedly appear in the sky overhead. More rare is when a squadron of the Blue Angels or a stealth fighter fly by. Pretty cool nonetheless.

I've actually never seen our only stealth fighter fly, ever.

The sound they make is pretty intimidating, actually.

I've seen the bombers quite a few times, but I don't think I've seen a stealth fighter.

Years ago, they used to have an air show at an old base not too far from me. The last year they did that, they were supposed to fly the stealth fighter. We got to walk within about 20-30 yards of it, blocked by the guards stationed at attention encircling the jet.
We were told it wasn't going to fly because it had a bad tire and they didn't have a spare! No kidding!
I said, "Multi-millions of dollars of technology and it's just as vulnerable as my pick up out in the parking lot!"

I don't even think they are in use anymore but I could be wrong. Kind of useless in today's war.

The farm I work for has some fields right at the end of the runway for Luke AFB. They got some of the new ones (f-35?) and you can tell when those fuckers go over. way louder than the f-16's

15s are about as loud as it gets. So glad I rarely have to deal with them.

Hard to even imagine the level of "Oh shit!" that the sight and sound of a couple hundred of those things coming your way would bring.

I forgot you've been around jets for a couple months now. My bad!

Gramps said a P-38 was the best sound he had ever heard, a sound of all their own. Told me the story of them taking heavy fire from hillside bunkers while trying to cross the Siegfried Line in Germany. Said it seemed to take days for the P-38s to get there once they heard them, they made their pass and the bunkers were done firing. Was one of the many stories I heard while waiting at the VA last Wednesday.

Seen the stealth F117 twice. Once over my house flying to an air show. The other was at a festival at the point. It swooped over several times at almost tree top level. Holy shit was it loud. I've seen most if the modern day fighters and that was by far the loudest.

It's cool to see the modern fighters but I think even cooler to look up and hear the propellers and the distinct silo of the B17. It's not much bigger than a sinful salat fighter.
