That is a guy I want for a neighbor. The knowledge bouncing around in that guys head has got to be ridiculous

My kids used to always ask me "Dad, why do you hang out with these old guys?"

"Becuase you just shut up and let them talk and they fill your head with all the knowledge they got through their life. " ;)

Most the kids I know are way smarter than any old folks they know.

Listening to stories is about as good as it gets. Wish I had talked to more of them along the way.

Began as a high school project with students interviewing their hillbilly grandparents and older neighbors about all manner of subjects from home remedies to gardening and evolved into a series of books on folk wisdom that were popular in the '70s. Reminded me of home.

For instance, my ex- got poison ivy something fierce just standing by me after I'd walked through it, and had gone to skin specialists for shots and prescription lotions to no avail before we happened to mention it around my WVa great aunt, who said "Child, just rub some jewel weed on it." Turned out that weed that grew in just about every wet ditch around soothed the itch and dried it up in a day.

All you need is a few hundred dollars.
