Betty's HD rant

Just went to HD (Home Depot) and it's time to share/rant so I can dump the evil that's bubbling up thru my body right now.

Bought 3 (THREE) 1 x 12 x 6' pine boards. Sounds pretty simple right?
I'm picky about wood and will go thru a pile to find the good ones and guys I had to move a lot of wood to find 3 nice common boards. Sure I could buy clear pine for 3 or 4 times as much. Building shims for feeding bees. Think little skinny box that's 1.5 inches tall and 20 x 16 & 3/8.

So I haul my boards up to the contractors desk. (I'm still a general contractor...will be til I die)
There were 5 people there jabbering away and the smell of coffee was strong.
Lady sets her cup down and steps over to the register.
First she asked me to tell her how many. That set me off for some reason.
So I fanned out the boards like cards and asked loudly..."how many is this?!?"
The staff all looked at me funny and stood there.
I said "three---nah ah ah---THREE boards to build with NAH AH AH" (I am Count Von Count sometimes)

Ok

So she wants me to pick up the board so she can scan the sticker on the end. Fine.
Then she wanted me to pick them ALL up one at a time so she can scan them individually.
By that time a man had walked around the desk so I made him do it. Was looking him right in the eye and asked, "can't you just do it all for HER?" (dead serious)

I told her to her face that she needs to find another job somewhere that's not a lumberyard because wood is heavy and so are concrete blocks. Do I have to go get a cart load and show you?

Something about the helpless female cashier (Hispanic woman built like a GMC truck) at a lumberyard drove me past some line and bdah bduhhh tck tck bdwah.

Now how much you want to bet she's voting for cankles so she can get equal pay AND $15 minimum wage and she'll still play the helpless woman card? It took two men to assist her to ring up three boards, take the cash, and give me a receipt.
WTF?

My aunt is a "libber". Quit opening doors for her when I was 12 or 13 because "you're equal to any man so open your own doors". Women want to be treated like women sometimes? (but equal to men)
I just can't get it.

It will take me 5 years to live this post down and I know it. Sort of like TK's buddy and burger king. sigh...it's all right. Enjoy.  I feel so much better now. ;)

Here's a visual of a feeder shim. This one is a "candy board". Has 20 pounds of sugar in it. Set it on a hive and they have food for the winter. Right now I'm making like 20 of them. #400 of sugar. Yeah.

I've always wanted to keep a bee hive... heard it's a daunting thing as bee's are quite finicky. Are you using the solid sugar for winter feeding because a liquid one would freeze up on ya or is there a benefit to solid sugar?

I'm looking at a flow hive... yes/no indifferent about the new technology? If it'll simplify the process by eliminating board pulling, wax cutting, and spinning I'm all on board as I have too many hobbies the way it is.

No need to feel bad. There's dip sticks in all walks of life, you just happened to run into one. Good luck on the bee hives. I for one would like to get into it when I retire, but really don't know a thing about it. Is there a book or something that I could get to start reading up on bee keeping?

There are many many books on bees. The one I have is old and out of print but was written by a man from the University of Illinois. I live in Urbana-Champaign (home of the U of I) so I got a book from my area. It's called "Beekeeping in the Midwest" by Elbert Jaycox.
There are books on how to raise new queens and pretty much everything "bee" including how to build your own hives. I should caution you because you'll spend 50 hours watching Youtube bee videos once you watch one. Look at the Michael Palmer ones. He's brilliant, lives in Vermont, and has thousands of bee hives.

Marla Spivak's video...Ted Talk. This one will get your juices going. https://www.ted.com/talks/marla_spivak_ ... anguage=en

It's not a cheap hobby. I've spent enough to buy a half-dozen berettas.

There are a lot of bee supply places too. Dadant is in Ilinois. Mann Lake Ltd. is in Minnesota I think. Betterbee...there are quite a few.

It's something to do when it's not duck season. ;)

There is a website called Bee Source that's the WFF of bees.

Oh fuck...it's walmart now. Bought tires. Brought truck in at 8 this morning.
First they dropped my key and lost the guts to it. Next they called saying they can't do the work because lug nuts are in bad shape so I went and loosened the bad ones about 9:30.
They called me back 3 hours later saying they can't work on it again.
Now they want me to take tires off and put them back on and they'll do the rest.
Bring them in one at a time. Damn. I was there. Asked them do I have to do the whole thing for you?
So fuckin pissed. Ducks are flying an I'm dickin around with tires.
Thank you wal fuckin mart.

And guess who jacked up my lugs? WalMart in Blytheville, Arkansas. They're all bent to hell.

Something about a tire shop telling me and I quote, "we don't have the tools required to take your lugs off" sent me over the edge and I'm pretty sure it should. They don't even have lug nuts to replace any that they tear up. WHAT IN THE FUCK?!?!?!

Starting to feel like I'm some sort of BAD CUSTOMER or something. All I did was try and get new tires at a tire shop.

You went to Walmart to get tires was your biggest mistake.

Got even worse. Tuesday afternoon we went to go get the truck. They lost the key.
Luckily when I had the last key made we saved the data so the guy can just make another one.
Got the tires I wanted. They owe me a key.
