Took me a while to get motivated but had been eyeing a couple dead apple and pear trees on the old farm.
The trees were dead dead.
Plan was to get out the old chipper shredder and shred em up into smoker chips.
Made about 40 gallons of wood chips. Mixture of apple and pear.
Might be a while before I ever buy me any smoker wood chips that's not hickory.
Hickory trees are kinda scarce around here.

Know nothing of smoking with pear, but used a lot of apple with both fish and turkey. Worked for me.

Have done all sorts of woods. Pear is actually really good but am not cutting a live tree to get it. We have a handful of Bartlett pear trees that are ancient but never seem to grow any bigger. Some limbs needed trimming.
This year the pears were actually edible. Usually they're hard as a rock and never get ripe until they're rotten. Goofy.

Whenever I can I'll drag home some pecan wood from down south. Still have a good sized log. Pecan is excellent for smoking pork. We got some cherry trees but I don't think that sounds very good.

As long as there are apple trees dying of old age I'll be using that.
Hard to believe that trees I planted are dying of old age.

Mesquite is way too strong for us.
