Having two Wood Duck hunts under my belt in our Upper Delta this year, with 0 to show for it, finally had a decent solo hunt on the causeway last Friday. Spent a hour scouting to find a few Gadwalls sitting out in the open in a huntable area, and another hour cutting Roseau, built a blind and finally got set up at 9:37 a.m. First few to check me out, would not commit, so I moved a few decoys around and added two flock-a-fickr's to the spread for add'l visual, and that seemed to turn the trick. Not a lot of traffic, but enough, and I shot well (had a triple and a double), and by 11:40 a.m., had 6 gadwalls in the boat. Considering the pressure these birds receive, felt damn good to kill a limit! Sorry, no pics, but of the 4 drakes, three of them were studs. Felt damn good to finally shoot a few birds, and hated that my stepson was in Atlanta (at a Widespread Panic concert over the weekend), and missed out. Went back to the same area Sunday, but it was a bluebird day with very little bird movement, but did manage to shoot 1 gadwall and 1 Do Gris.
