My hip boots leaked like a sieve on me last year. Best pair I ever owned, but they seemed to have cheaped out on their current design of the same model. Couldn't find a pair that I liked last season. Goo'ed the hell out of them and kept leaking to tolerable levels. First time I used them this year, they are completely hopeless.

Anybody got any suggestions on decent hip boots for a decent price. Everything I've seen is cheap crap.

Black diamond is the best but pricey.

I don't want to go pricey, but I don't want any of the cheap crap that I've seen.

I need to get on the ball. I'll be needing them before I know it.

I've never worn hip boots, so no help...

The only thing I can tell you for sure about hip boots is up in Alaska a lot of women used to wear them when salmon fishing and it’s hard to beat a fine lady wearing hip boots.

Does Redball still make hip boots? Probably just aged myself ha ha.

I am kind of in the same boat as I need a new pair of chest waders. I am really leaning towards Tidwe as I’ve heard nothing but great things about them. Not sure if they make a hip boot. Does Rogers make a hip boot? Guessing they would be fairly cheap and usually Roger’s stuff is good.

Just did a quick search on Rogers and only did the Rogers brand. Looks like three choices.

Cabela's Alaska Guide Series were the last really good hip boots I'm aware of: relatively light, very long lasting and Air Bob soled for great traction. So good that I was cutting them off at the top of the boot foot and wearing them as knee boots, also, until the last of them wore through. Naturally, they quit making them without notice and I wasn't smart enough to get on the net and track down extra pairs still at one of their stores. (Which I did with the great dog vests they once sold.)

So I've been using LaCrosse hip boots that aren't nearly as long lasting as they once were. Hate the uninsulated version's "chevron" (read "skate") soles enough to put up with the insulated Burly version's weight and warm weather heat to gain their Air Bob soles' traction advantage. All in all, I'm glad the days I largely lived in hip boots several months of the year are behind me.

More rant than help, I know, but I can at least offer a "good luck".

Really good luck with my insulated version of Lacrosse. I have worn mine for 5 years now using them about 20 times each season. After season care and storage in a cool dry place has always been the way to go in my experience. You can expect to pay about 100.00 for them and maybe a bit more.

Have been through a fair many pairs; not a whole lot of good to say about any of them really, so not much help on that front.


Can add that I can confirm a pair of Frogg Togg hip boots were pretty dang poor for durability and didn't last a season, so dont try those! If anything, I'd be game to try the Rogers versions right now given they appear to be built sturdy and since it's their name on it, may be more apt to stand behind them.

Thanks. I think between Roger's and LaCrosse I have some better options than I saw last year.

Time to make a decision and get them shipped out just in case I'm not happy when they arrive.

For many years Cabelas was my crew's go-to chest wader (breathable, no neoprenes for us), because construction was good and they backed them up.

But a good few years back they went downhill and got cheapy.....like about everything else in the world I guess.

Bigfoots are for hunting honkers between Riverview golf course and Cottonwood Coulee. I use Big Al’s because Native uses them and he’s the goose shootinest goose hunter in the world!

I hunt between Riverview Park, Carillon Golf Course, Four Seasons Park, and Bolingbrook County Club, so I think I am good with the Bigfoots
