Have heard of many different ways. What is the preferred method to preserve a bird to take to taxidermist later?

I recently did this, I took the bird and tucked the head next to the body then double bagged it in zip lock bags removing all the air I could. Then I put it in a box and packed newspaper in the voids to stop it from moving around.

Ziploc like Olly said and get to the taxidermist as soon as possible. Frost free freezers are horrible, dries them out.

Threw him in pantie hose and sealed it in a vac bag. Not vacuumed. Fine?

Sure. Biggest thing is to take them in sooner than later. After a year in the freezer they get dried out and hard to work with.

Nice bird.
Worth cutting it out and re-sealing?
Not much chestnut to be accounted for at all on the belly but of course it wasn't as much looks I was going for with this one.

About the pantyhose.
You should wear them when you take the bird to the taxi.
Make sure you let him know you have them on.

The cut that's in them now will be a nice touch. Still classy but says I'm here to party.
Think I need more sleep...

I put the first swan I killed in hose.
There was a gigantic African American female working at the dollar store in BFE NC the day I walked in and bought them.
Walked all over the store looking for them and finally asked her "where do you have the pantyhose at"...she waddles out from her spot at the register and heads over to a rack and says "what size and color?" Says I "color isn't important, but they have to be big enough to fit a swan"...she give me a WTF look, so I added, "and where do you keep your condoms"

I was just going to suggest urban dictionary. OBX, just set aside a whole day to start learning new terms. You won't even scratch that site, but you'll have a start.
