First time I have grown pumpkins.

Try a feather duster. Not one of the ones with real feathers but the kind that are "fuzzy", like wool almost. I use them on my squash and tomatoes. Just walk around and sort of dab all the flowers, in no particular order. Not sure about the squash, but it seems to help the tomatoes, and doesn't take very much time at all.

So they can self pollenate? I'm real new to all this and decided to make some upside down planters yesterday. I put in some tomatoes, bell and jalepeno peppers and cucombers along with rosemary, oregano, dill and summer savory. I was under the impression you need two or more plants for pollenation purposes.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the hybrids are self pollinating, but I'm not sure.

Study up a little on the sex organs of flowers. A third grader might be helpful to have explain it.

The pumpkin plant is different than what I'm used to seeing. (like on Maters)

The male and female flowers are on the same plant. I only planted two.
The second was my back-up and is a few weeks behind.

I tear the male organs out of the flower and used that to rub the pollen onto the female.
I have many male blooms but the females come on one at a time.
Had fun doing a lil plant-sex.
Giggitty.

Plants are messed up. If they can reproduce by pollinating themselves, you would think each flower would have both male and female parts. Like a woman with one ovary and one testicle firing at the same time. I'm off to the laboratory! MUAHAHAHAHAHA

Good thing you didn't ask if I was going to give myself a testicle. That's what I thought you wrote at first and I still can't think of a comeback for that. :D

It only took 41-42 days from bloom to harvesting a 19.5 pound pumpkin. Amazing.
