That's my new Bear Encounter, I've been having a blast shooting it. Why I never owned a bow before now is beyond me.

Yea it is. I pulled a muscle in my arm last week and am trying to heal it up as fast as I can so I can go shoot the bow some more.

I didn't know Matthews made a cheap bow?

Yeah it's only 400-600. It is made for women, children and beginners since it can go from 20 some pounds all the way to70 I believe

You know how every once in a while you'll hear a loud boom, the earth shake a little, windows will rattle, a breeze will blow through trees and a cloud of smoke rise into the air. That means someone, somewhere shot a bow mag. That's why you don't hear about it. They have to hurry up and get the fuck outta there before the cops and fire department show to investigate the huge explosion.

Excalibur Equanox. With scope, went to a recurve bow after shooting a compound for 10yrs. To many cables and pulleys on the Horton to get tangled up in the brush. Took 14 head with it. Taken 5 head with the Excalibur so far, been a good reliable Crossbow. Super accurate to 50 yds.

Just got a new Mathews Creed. I love it. Shoots like a dream. Quite as crap and fast as hell.

I bought a Ben Pearson Hunter 709, 40lb recurve at a garage sale for I think $40 about 25 or years ago. Just pulled it out of the closet again a few months ago and I'm getting pretty damn good at hitting a Gatorade bottle at 15-20 yards. I might hunt with it, but would prefer to move up in poundage for that. My friend's 60lb self bow feels alright, but I'd probably be better off starting at around 50lb or so, for now.

I mostly shoot ducks but since Christmas when I got a new Pellet gun, I've been shooting a few squirrels.

I have not done any bow hunting since 2002 and plan to do it again. Too many other hobbies and tasks and waterfowl hunting keeps me busy. Anyway, here are some of my hand made bows. The center bow shoots about 160FPS with a 640 grain arrow.
Bows.JPG

The recurve took my first archery kill and the Center bow the later ones. I planned to use the bottom bow for ground blinds, but kind of quit deer hunting for a while. The bottom bow is deflexed to be allowed to be strung all day. Wood bows don't take well to being strung all the time. Then they can take set and get a little bit slower.

One of my arrows heads made from Circular saw blades and bound in only with deer leg tendons.

White turkey feather tied down with stripped Dogbane fibers and bound with hide glue dyed with charcoal.

Arrows. These arrows run about 625 to 645 grains finished with a 125 grain head. This wood is actually Hazel from Scotland I traded for. It works, but I have local wood shoots I prefer more. Multiflora Rose is my second favorite and I am sure most of you know it well. :D

That's awesome. Sometimes I think it would be fun to go back to the old days of archery with the traditional equipment and just shoot the first brown thing that walks by.
