Crossbow opinions?

Crossbow opinions?

Postby Frylock » Fri Oct 31, 2014 11:55 pm

Utterly confused by all the options out there, I've never owned one so no clue what is important. Top contenders are a Ten Point Shadow ultra light, Bowtech Stryker Solution Ls and Excalibur Matrix 380.....but I'd appreciate and input on other bows.

I have a Ten Point Wicked Ridge. Only shot it once. Need to get good with it and kill a deer.

10 point is a great bow I have 2 of them. 50 yards all day long. We shoot turkeys with them.

In my opinion crossbows are for the handicapped or elderly. If you are either one of those keep on shooting

In my experience lighter is better. I've got two of them, a Horton Supermag and a Barnett quad 400, and both of them kill deer just fine but the Barnett is a pain in the ass due to its weight.

This. Made by Ten Point, far and away the best bargain priced bows.

All I know about crossbows is that if you have one, you ain't using it on my boat to shoot fish.

I don't want a bolt through my head when the trolling motor hits a stump and somebody falls on their ass and pulls the trigger.

Guns are for when the weather gets cold. Weather is starting to get cold around here ;)

There's a season for it, they are legal so why knock anybody who wants to use one? I shoot one sometimes, I'm not handicapped or elderly. Yet. And if a crossbow helps get someone new in to archery like a young person or a lady that can't draw a bow, so much the better.
Now back to the OP, hard to beat a wicked ridge. I bought one 4 years ago, out of the box it was dead on out to 40.

My opinion, crossbows suck. A lot of the people that shoot them think they are hunting with a rifle. they will take longer shots than they would with a traditional compound bow. Most of these crossbows shoot the same speed or less than that of modern compounds. There is not a crossbow or bow on earth that shoots faster than the speed of sound, they are a hell of a lot louder than compounds. So when you take that longer shot, the animal being shot at has that much more time to jump the sound of it.
