Looking for a back up gun-

I love my Benelli. Its the best gun I have ever owned. But I am thinking having a back up might not be a bad idea. I have a beautiful 870 Wingmaster that is far to nice to be a waterfowl gun. So I am looking at selling it and kicking a few bucks in towards another gun, used ofcourse.

My early thoughts are Beretta 390 (love this idea) maybe a Franchi, or possibly a Stoger 3000. Have also considered an A5 Mag.

I owned an 11-87, not interested on another one unless its a really good deal.

I dont care about shooting 3.5" shells.

I would like to be around 6-700 if possible.

What do you all think?

Just get a nova and be done with it. Why get an auto that won't hardly be used? What if your back up auto fails you? Bet that nova won't.

The simplicity and ruggedness of the nova puts it above the 870 for waterfowl.

Nova is still relatively new compared to the 870. Give it time and people will be proclaiming the legendary status of the nova in haiku.

Most of these kids have never held an 870. All they know is the garbage Big Green has puked out since Cerberus bought them out.

If you could find an early 90's Wingmaster SPS Magnum, you'd have the absolute pinnacle of waterfowl pump guns. That was the first shotgun I bought and I curse the day I sold it.

I'm never selling mine. A nova is just an 870 with plastic guts and a over sized stock and four grip.

Wanna buy another one? Mine is circa 1993

I have been through the 870 zone. They are great guns for what they are.

I like the spring. I am spoiled.

Not interested in pumping the handle any more (but I love my model 62 winchester!)

How about a '53 wingmaster 16? Quite partial to that one.

Eh, I'm sure it's a nice gun.

The Wingmaster SPS, was a Wingmaster, without all the luster bluing and wood. Flat matte finish on the metal and synthetic stocks, but still had a vent rib and screw chokes.

TK - have a looksee at Gunbroker and see what Wingmasters are selling for.

Cool, wasn't aware of those. This one fits that bill now after grandpa put it to good use.

For the hell of it, middle one even though you can't see much.

I find it amusing that all of these high-dollar gun owners feel the need for a back up gun. Yet Boot and I, with our cheapo 870s don't feel that need. Wonder why?

Oh, its not a need Jim.
I already have a gun just like yours.

It's a want.

For the same reason I own a safe full of guns. I like 'em.

I have two SBE's because I bought my second one used for $500 when the first one was 11 years old. I figured someday, it may wear out and if not - I've got 2 (soon to be 3) boys that will need it.

Lol, granted it is a 16 it has next to no recoil. Love shooting with it. Was also a blast running all the old shells he had for it. Second an third shots were put through a wall of smoke.
