I have a Browning Gold Hunter with the traditional silver bead on the tip, ive been seeing basically every new gun using fiber optic sights. I guess what im asking is, whats ur opinion on them? is it worth upgrading? if so what kind should i get?

Thanks

I have a magnetic one that I change from gun to gun. The only time that I think it makes a difference is in low light conditions. I'm not sure that I would pay a lot to have one installed, but it doesn't hurt to have one (Especially if it comes pre-installed). I would recommend trying one of the magnetic ones out for around $20 to see if you like it.

The only time I even realize there's a bead on my shotgun is during turkey season.

Your focus should be on the target, not the bead. Anything that draws your eyes off the target is a distraction.

I've replaced the fiber optic sights on my shotguns with plain white beads, or have removed the front sight completely.

This. All new guns have them because the Robersons have them.

The front site on my main gun has been long gone. I always look at the duck and as long as I shoulder the gun properly something dies.

But to answer your question directly one of my guns came with the fiber optic sight and it seemed to bright to me. Even in low light conditions. That's the same reason why I won't put the fiber optic sight on my hand guns.

The only thing mine is good for is letting me know when it's shooting hours. If it's lit up, you can shoot.

(if it's glowing, you should be blowing)

Okay, well thanks for the input guys, it's crazy that literally no one likes them. It makes me wonder why all the professional trap shooters and guys like the legend Tom Knapp(RIP) use them

If you're seeing someone on TV or in a magazine use them it probably was given to them to promote.

Yeah, what Olly said.

If I was getting paid to shoot clays or ducks - I'd shoot whatever I was paid to shoot.

That's what I was totally thinking, I think I'm just dying to upgrade or do something to my gun, was kinda sad when I realized I don't have enough money at the moment for a new shotgun, I'm just itchin for a purchase I guess

I don't disagree with Dan and Olly......................................BUT!

I personally like a SMALL fiber bead, like the one on my M2.
Notice I said small.

YES you should only look at the target
YES a distraction is just that.

But I have had lots of different sites, the brass bead is my least favorite, I actually like the white site on my 870, and I plan on upgrading to a SMALL fiber bead on my Silver Mallard.

I think its that way because its.....ME.
I always seem to like those SMALL glowing beads, especially in low light.

The ducks and geese I kill every year don't care what bead I use.
To each their own.

Browning golds are nice guns. Why the sudden urge to upgrade?

You don't aim a shotgun, you point it.

I use the sight, I just don't know that a fiber optic sight would be worth paying to have installed vs. leaving the white/silver bead in place.

I still think it should be tested for "fit" worth a cheap one.

Some sights/other things are best left to a gunsmith to install. Not everyone has the skills of an old Tomkat...

x2...If I can sight in a scope for my deer rifle, surely I can put a bead on the front of my shotgun to point at ducks.

I guess a bread would be no big deal, but in my mind I was stuck on night sights for some reason. I'm not messing with that stuff.
