It's hurting a very little on the foxes, but a lot on the coons. I'm probably losing 20% or better. I meant to make a bunch this summer, but as of now I've only got three done. You can see the difference on the one coon that's on wood. Night and day.

How do I know they were stolen? Since I lost that coyote, I've been putting in new sets using cable stakes. And these two were cut. Motherfuckers. So unless foxes are carrying cable cutters, I've got a thief problem. They were visible from the road, but they were easily 200 yards across a cut beanfield. I hope they get their dick stuck.

That sucks man. They'll get whats coming to them eventually. You reap what you sow.

Looks like nafa will put up your green skinned coon for 2.75 a piece. Seems like a great deal. I'm gonna call next week and check out this service.

I'm pretty cheap.

Just remade 5 sets after I came out of the tree stand. Need to get more foxes put up, with the first pick up date getting closer and closer.

Couple more reds. Slow and steady this year, which is fine with me.

Sweet! Couldn't check mine today so if I have one hopefully it holds. I wonder if it would freeze to death laying in -15. That's what it will be tonight.

Thanks! Can you set body grips bugger than 110 out of water out there? If so, maybe you could try a 220 or 330 on a fox. I can't imagine how much of a pain in the ass it must be keeping legholds functioning when it's that cold.

I'm quite baffled by the lack of grays this year. Last year I had 16 grays and 2 reds by this time. This year I have 17 reds, and the only gray I have was picked up off the road. Same farms, same lures, basically the same locations. Don't get it. And I only have 5 coons as well. I think off the top of my head I usually have about 12-15 by now. I'm not bitching, though. I'll take reds all day long.

I'm guessing that you will be able to buy more toys with the reds than the grays.
We can use 330's on land. I suppose I could make big cubby boxes or a natural cubby. People around here get them in their marten sets occasionally.

That's what I was thinking- make a bucket set of some sort. Or dig a BIG hole for a dirt hole set, like a small burrow, throw in some guts or a piece of liver, and put that 330 over the entrance. I wish we could use them out of water, but we can't. Not even the 110s.

One red today, but he was pretty big.

I'm getting my ass kicked by a fox on another farm. He won't flip the traps, but will come in from the back and dig out the dirt hole. So I set a flat set behind. He went around to the other side. Set another flat set. He split the difference. Set up a post set 10 yards off. He knocked it over and pissed all over everything. I've pulled traps and moved them, just to try and get him. I've got 6 sets in a 10 yard circle just trying to get this fucker. It's personal now.

Very nice! Do they always have the gray flanks? It seems like there is always some gray in the hips. I almost hit a fox the other day that was red from the shoulders up and gray from the shoulders back. It had a really full coat so I thought is was a different kind of fox but seems that it must of been a red.
Do you ever get black colored reds? We have a few around here.

It's called "frosted". It's more whitish/brownish than gray. These aren't bad, but if it gets up to the shoulders, you'll take a hit on the hides. The description on your lots will say "frst" or something like that. All the one's have it to some degree or other, but unless it's real bad, it'll be fine. I've had a few that I was certain would be graded "frst", but they came out select. Somehow.

Never seen a black one. Neighbor got a silver and a cross last year, but those were the only two "others" that he's ever seen.

You are doing pretty good when you can out-fox a fox.

I tipped off a coyote on a golf course a couple months ago. The little smart ass would dig up the set nightly. You could tell by the way the dirt was thrown approximately the way it was facing when digging so I put a set in that spot, no lure, no bait, no attractor, no hole, nothing, just buried the trap and the coyote was waiting for my the next morning by the back foot.

That's what I did with the flat sets behind. Haven't checked yet this morning, but I want that bastard bad.

There's another spot about 12 feet away where he's been digging in an old groundhog hole. I may try bating that hole and setting a snare in it. I'm not sure if it'll work or not, but I need to change it up and throw the "rules" out the window with this fella.

If he is digging at the ground hog hole with out you doing anything why not just put a set in (foothold) with no bait or lure and see what happens, he maybe associating these new smells with you. Go in ninja like. Make sure your traps have not been contaminated and now have some scent on them.

With the crappy weather this week, I decided to put out some snares. Paid off today. This one's not huge, but the coat is probably the nicest so far.

Very nice! I'm still waiting on my first snare catch. I showed a guy how to snare and he got a 50lb beaver the next day and he snared a fox the other day but yet I haven't snared anything. Lol
