Nafa sale

Postby quackhead » Mon May 19, 2014 3:12 pm

Looks like a blood bath on coon! Glad I'm not selling but 1 of those there. Mink took a beating but rats stayed pretty strong for today's market but I would've done better locally
Hopefully yotes beaver sell tomorrow.

Oh my hell, that was horrible. Bad as I ever remember it. My idea to send a few to the Helsinki sale next year is looking better and better. I'm almost afraid to watch the fox tomorrow.

I think fox will be okay since they have a much lower inventory. Not saying they will do great though. Just hope you can sell asuch now for low prices or they will be on fire come September.

I was surprised to see otter clear so low. They did worse than coon. Pray for a cold summer and fall in Russia.

Otter has really been struggling because China is pretty much the only player on that item and a number of the chinamen are in trouble.

If I ever accidentally caught a beaver, I'm pretty sure I'd turn it loose instead of going through all the aggravation the take for so little money.

And I really need to find more water to trap, since muskrats have stayed steady for so long. I'd also love to see all the mink ranches get shut down.

That's pretty damn good, especially considering how everything else has been doing.

No kidding. I'm thinking I may be kicking myself for not putting up the possums I caught this year. They can't do any worse than my coons (which sold not a one at this sale, even the 4X), and have a 50/50 chance of doing better.

While I know some may hate me for saying it, I'd just as soon have them throw the coon away instead of carrying them over. With demand the way it is, and so many available, selling them at $2 will hurt far more than shitcanning them. Every buyer will have stocked up on $2-$4 coon that they won't buy shit next year, especially with almost 700,000 still being carried over from this sale. I'd rather take a short term smaller beating by having them destroyed, and possibly look at $15-$20 coon next year, instead of getting $50 now and flooding the market, making a much longer, more severe beating. If they don't destroy them, there will be well over a million coon in the first sale next year. In which case, I'm not even going to set any coon sets.

Your not the only one who thinks they should burn them. Not only is there 600000 coon left over but there are a lot in country still. A lot of coon are coon with minimums. People bought them on speculation last may. Those rich folks are gonna lose a lot of money

There were a few at 35-70 but most were 4-6$ yotes or unsold. It is tuff to want to take care of a stinky ass dog that's only worth 6$

That's why I put as big a hole in them as I can...not going to mess with skinning one anyway.

Yep, I averaged $33 on my reds, which is far better than I hoped. I was getting dangerously close to having to cut them a check to cover my tumbling fees

6 dollars?! Your time would be better spent walking the highway picking up beer cans for the deposit.

A buddy posted these sale tickets from his furs back in the early 80s. It's really depressing if you factor in inflation.

It's way worse if you look at the early 1900's and then add inflation. :(
Late 70's and early 80's was a good time to be trapping.

My grandpa still talks about trapping mink when he was growing up and getting $40-60 a piece! Actually bought my grandmas wedding ring with mink money!

My wife probably wouldn't have been happy to get a ring that I got with mink money! It would probably be a wood ring :)
Mink will never again bring those kind of prices. When there is 80 million ranched mink every year there is know way wild mink will sell worth a shit!

Guess I was so worked up over the prices at the first sale, I didn't realize I had one of the best 300 red foxes in the sale, out of 30,000. It's the little things in life.
