				Burlap Question

I recently got some Herter's decoys and am trying to decide whether or not to burlap them. I know that I am going to loose the molded in detail of the decoy but it will be a lot stronger and impact resistant if I burlap them. I am looking for yalls opinion on this.

They will be much heavier when your all done with them. The two layers of mastic adds up quick. So I guess it depends upon your mode of travel when hunting relative to accomodating the extra weight. I think the paint holds up better on the finished mastic too.

So, are you NOT using hotbuys?

I got some stormfronts but wanted some more, lets say, authentic decoys.

Ive never understood the point of burlaping decoys. If the birds arent turned off by the ugly decoy it creates they arent going to be turned off by a couple white, pink, or blue pellet holes in the foam. I have a few foam goose decoys. They get a very detailed coat of spray paint each summer to fill in the holes.

I'm just worried about them getting crushed by something in the back of the truck.

I dont treat mine any different than any other decoy and they are fine. Although Im not one of those "hardcore gear beating morons" either.

Ok, I guess I will just leave them alone. Far less work anyway.

I had looked into the same but a can or two of spray paint each year is easier and much lighter.

I made 20 burlaped seaducks last winter and the only advantage I see is you can't gouge out chunks of foam. I like them, very durable

The eider closest to the camera is the last decoy on my longline. When the birds see the toothless grin, its game over

				If I didn't layout hunt exclusively, I wouldn't own a burlap decoy.

I especially hate this type. The guy who destroys my 25-yr-old hunting gear and loudly declares, "it was old and junky anyway". It got to be old because it is high quality equipment like you can't buy anymore.
It's not junky either.
I tend to start ragging on a guys old junky wife, dog, and truck after he does that once or twice to me.

You ever mess with restle coating? Think that's what it's called. Use sawdust instead of burlap I believe.
