Worms

Reading a couple other posts, and I have a question- how are puppies born with worms? When they are in utero, they are "sealed" up in the placenta, not eating, drinking, or breathing anything. So how do they get worms?

It's possible that I'm mistaken about this, and I know not all pups have worms, but it sure seems like they all do, right from birth. How does this happen?

Don't they share blood with momma to remove the waste and get air to their bodies?

Worms can also pass through the placenta. Nursing is another great way for pups to get worms.

Never thought about nursing. I thought they were born with them. Does that even count if mama has been wormed?

Goldie, I thought about the blood aspect, but thought that intestinal worms had to be eaten to get them? As for the others, I guess I never thought about pups having heartworms or something like that. Truthfully, I didn't think of the fact that they could have other worms besides the typical "eaten" kind, which I don't even know what they are, technically speaking.

It's not really important to me, I was just curious. Never really thought about where worms would come from in pups before.

Worms do their work in the intestines, therefore the deworming Meds focus in that area. Worms can stay dorment in the mammary glands and not be treated.

They are mostly roundworms.
