Male lab 2 years no nuts, has developed an extreme fear of soft beeps... As of about two months ago if the tv makes the right tone of a beep he will hide/jump on couch without approval/shake/run into the other room. We had to turn off the beep on the oven since it would lead to the same result. He is becoming more and more sensitive to noises around the house. Gunfire, no problem. The wife and I are at a complete loss as to where to turn.

Is there something he absolutely loves? Something that you could give him every time a beep sounds so he Pavlov's the beep to a good thing?

Do you use a collar on him? And if so does it beep? Just an idea.

When he's scared he will not take a treat our toy. The beep is disabled on his collar and has never been used. Great ideas but you see where I'm at. I cannot for the life of me figure out the cause.

That's tough then. Sorry I don't have any other ideas, but good luck.

Is there maybe something out of your control happening, ie when he is outside while you and the wife are gone to work?
My buddy told me a story about when he was stationed in Bahrain he and a buddy shared an apartment off base. They had a dalmation who started trembling everytime the broom was brought out. Their appt rent included a house keeper, a male Bahraini. Don't ask me how they found out, but they found out when the guy came in to clean the dog would bark at him so he was beating him with the broom.

When he's somewhere else, record the oven beep on your phone or something. Then take him to a park or some other place, and play the video. See if he reacts the same way.
I have no clue what to do with this info, though. Just thought it may be helpful in some way to find out if it's situational, or if it's all about the tone/noise.

Good thoughts, I know something like this isn't going to go away over night but it's got to stop.

Forgot to mention, once my buddy talked with the house keeper and told him they would beat him black and blue with the broom it stopped.
I don't see how that helps you, just thought I'd share.

Just hope the battery in one of your smoke detector doesn't go bad. We had a dog that was completely freaked when we came home to a smoke detector beeping. Our dog only reacted to the smoke detector, not the microwave , the washing machine or any other beeps. Kind of funny now that it's over but not a bit funny then.
Good luck.

I trained mine with a whistle which she responds to fine. The problem is when there is a whistle on the TV she runs and hides like yours. I have no idea why.

Talk to Brew about training a dog.
I'm sure he can give you some pointers on noise shy dogs.

I suspect you have a wife and little training helpers. Possibly teasing the dog with a beeper.
