Dammit

Ki caught a fawn.

We were up around 5000', hunting morels, when he busted through some thick understory after something, then I heard the screams. I thought he'd gotten a rabbit and ran to deal with it, only to find him with a death grip on the fawn's neck and starting to give it some shakes, total wolf/predator mode. I yelled "NO! LEAVE IT!" and in a couple seconds I was on him and had his collar. He'd let go of the fawn and it just stood there kind of wobbly for a moment, then stumbled 15 yards away and hunkered back down. No blood evident, just a lot of slobber. Momma doe was lingering about 30 yards away, so I drug Ki out of there in case she decided to get defensive. Pretty sure the fawn was okay and hoping it smells a lot different than an adult deer so he doesn't decide they're worth running, after all. We did cross some fresh tracks along the river this morning and he showed zero interest, which is encouraging.
