I'm on the list for the traveling decoy. Any of you boys in, and/or near IL want to try to get together for a hunt over the traveling decoy?

Let me know if you're interested, and we'll figure out where might work well for all of us.

We'll have to see how many want to come, as well as decoy dates, to figure out the best spot.

When do you head south AB? We'll have to try to get it before you take off...

I've got no problem going to the central zone, but will need your expertise on where to go, AB.

From Nov. 20 to Dec. 1 am gone. That leaves from Dec. 2 until Christmas to do it or before Thanksgiving.
. My boat can do two or possibly three hunters.

You guys arrange it. I will go with the flow cuz I can.
Have mucho decoys etc.

I signed up for the week of 12/1-12/7. I'll probably take that whole week off to hunt, and could hand the decoy off to DC to take out to the NCH.

Let me know if that works, and we'll try to plan dates/locations.

Just remembered that I might need to ship it out to Jarbo or TK so they have some alone time with the decoy before the world heads to Kansas...

If I'm off all week, I'll plan around you guys.

Cool. I can start in East Central IL for at least part of that week to be closer to the herd...

Change of dates. I'll have it for the weekend of 12/7-12/8. Hopefully a bit sooner, so that we can do a mid-week hunt. AB should be in town then, so we can try to get a few of us together.

At this point we should identify our resources and needs.
I know I have everything to hunt. Including the dog and boat, decoys etc.
My boat/blind can do three but two is better cuz of the dog.
We might hunt somewhere where you have to use boat/blinds. (Not optional)
Walking in is also a possibility or boating then walking. Flexibility is important.
Basically asking, "who has what and who needs what?".
For instance , life jackets. Suddenly finding out we need a 4x large would tend to fuck things up.

Good call AB.

I'm pretty much ready to hop in a boat and go (someone else's boat that is).

I have a life jacket for myself, decoys, both heavy/nice and water keel, mojos, guns (extra if needed), waders in three different sizes to lend out, etc...

Damn, usually its worse. Have had to take someone to safety classes before. (Yuck)
Foid card and hunting license with stamps is a good start.

You guys want to hunt geese at McGee on sept 1?

Is that your resident goose or regular season? If resident, how many can you kill? I'm always curious if other states are as effed up as this one in their desire to "protect" a nuisance.

Ours used to be 15 a day (by "used to be", I mean about 3 years ago), then to 9, then to 8. Stupid. There's tons of those fuckers here. Regular has been 2 pretty much since they reopened it.

September 1st is early goose, and has a 5 bird limit. Regular season is 2.

Where is McGee AB? I will probably be in WI for labor day weekend, but if not, I'm in.

Illinois has 4 separate zones for waterfowl hunting and each has different dates. This Sept. hunt is a conservation (nuisance) hunt on public land. That season lasts 15 days and we have a 5-Canada goose limit.

It's HOT and will suck but if we get lucky...lotta geese. At this time of year they are doing low practice flights and will be then too. If they fly by...should get a whole family group, maybe two. Need several guns but no more than 4 total.

I am NOT going to participate in this decoy thing. My performance would be poor at best and would possibly lose the whole crew in the swamp. 50/50. I apologize for thinking it would be fun. I was wrong.

FF i am gonna try to get out quite a bit this early season, you are welcome to head down for a hunt after labor day weekend. as for the traveler, i would love to get in on it. my parents are in northern IL so that might work. plus blackcloud870 is up there and i love hunting with him. maybe we could all get together this year?
