Hey mike, what's this I hear about you having to show proof of passing hunter ed to get your CA hunting license? Is that true?

I think you can show them a hunting license from another state as proof, not sure though.

Edit- just looked it up, any out of state license current or within the past 2 years. Also last years non-resident license was $155. So with duck stamps you are looking at around $200 I would guess.

Unless they recently changed it, I bought a non-resi annual license 3 years in a row and didn't have to show hunter ed. Haven't bought it the last 2 years though.

Ive never had to show my actual card I guess, but MT, SD and Iowa asked my hunter ed #. I'm pretty sure.

Just edited my last post JR, you need proof or a license, current or issued within the past 2 years. Everything here changed in the last few years, all on computer now.

Bout time they finally got on the computer license system, all mine were filled out from a booklet.

That price sounds about right, I think with my refuge pass it was costing me around $230

It is nice, much faster system now. The only problem was the first year they made the switch. They have a card reader that gets all your personal info from your drivers license, then they had to manually enter the info again. It took forever! I spent 5 hours waiting in line to get my license and 2 deer tags that year.

It costs, but you can pick all the pot you can carry while you are here. Or go get a prescription, local "Doc" charges $150 to hook you up.

I suppose they'll not have any past record of me ever having a license then. I haven't needed my hunter ed card since I turned 18, wonder if I can get a reprint from OR?

You can just show them an out of state license, as long as it was issued within the last 2 years. That is what their web site says.

Oh I see what you're saying. I thought you meant it had to be a CA license issued within the last 2 years.

Thought it was believable for CA since recently a guy I hunt with went to shoot an axis buck in Hawaii and they require a hunter ed card for all hunters. At 74 years old he had to go take the class with a bunch of kids.
