870 supper express extractors ?

Postby Duplex Lover » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:01 pm

870 supper express extractors, are they a hard replacement?
I'm having a little trouble pulling my 3 1/2 spent hulls out of the chamber.
'Course they never stick till the geese are landing in your face and you'd love to fire all three shells. It just seams to be my 3 1/2 " goose loads. All the other reloads run like silk with only a very few hanging up.
Sky blasting again...

Have you checked to see if your bore is rusted? I know some have trouble with shells hanging up and need to polish the bore again.

It might not be the extractor but more of the shell is over 3.5" when it is fired. Cause a normal factory 3.5" doesn't measure that loaded, it measure more like 3 1/16". Then when it fires it suppose to open up to 3.5". Another problem I think might be happening is there isn't enough taper on the shell body. Just two possibilities.

I've had this happen a couple times in the past on 870s.

Mine was doing that. I took a wire bore scrubber brush on a cleaning rod and wrapped fine steel wool on it and hooked it up to the drill and polished the chamber that way. Worked wonders

THIS Has been a problem on many 870s, I did the same with emery cloth around a bore scrubber.

I think it's melted plastic or something.

I know I did this before in another thread but wtf..here goes again.
The problem is that your barrel needs to have some polishing done.
Put a 12 gauge brass brush into your cordless drill. Polish here.
That barrel is off my 1975 wingmaster.

This one is from 2006, is off a Super Magnum Express.
It had the same problems op described. Polished the port and its fine.

Part of the problem was operator error. Short-shucking maybe...got some bad habits from reloading. Would softly cycle the gun so I could grab spent shells and not have to search in snow.

Had the same problem with my 870 EM but only with one type of shell, Remington Hypersonic 3". They would hang up on ejection 2 out of 3 times.

Mine was putting a shell in the way. Was pumping too soft and slow plus...my protege, Travis, liked to Rambo my shotguns as hard as he possibly could.
