Sounds like you need to bump the price up a little.

Once I throw some new shoes and drums on the back I will. Every single person calling always says "I just want it to tow my boat".

Weight?

Looking at somewhere around 5-6k empty. Fully loaded I would venture to say we'd be looking at around 6500.

That says 1/2 ton to me.

Sounds like you should just go with a used Gasser. You will be taking a huge hit on the camper as it is, no need to waste even more on a truck you won't use enough to be worth it.

I had a 3/4 ton gasser and it was a turd. No power. Could barely get out of its own way with nothing hooked to it, hook something to it and the suspension was nice but it wasn't worth a shit to tow anything heavy. My z71 tows better than that piece of shit did.

After making the switch to a diesel I see no reason to go back, unless its for a compact size "run around town" truck.

When doing your fuel cost/benefit analysis calculations, don't forget to factor in the price of a new transmission to replace the one you blow up in the gasser.

Buy what you like. If you have to worry about milage, you can't afford a real pickup.
I prefer gas because I don't like the racket or cost of maintaining diesel.
If I liked diesel I'd still be a truck driver.
I've been driving a 1-ton gas for about 10 years now. 10 MPG but, It's always 10 MPG loaded or not.
Actually on some long trips it gets 12MPG.

Ive noticed that with almost all 1 ton trucks. Same mileage, loaded or unloaded. Also have to agree with you about if you are worrying about mileage, you can't afford a real truck.

I have a 3/4 ton Dodge diesel. It gets great gas mileage and the engine will never die but there is no way in hell I would have been able to afford it brand new when it came out. $36k back in 99. Close to a million dollars by todays standards

That's why I got rid of my old Chevy big gas engine. My 28 year old diesel gets 18-20 MPG. Although diesel is more than gas so it kind of evens out.

my old man has a 8.1. it is a pretty good motor but they only have about half the torque as the new smokers.something around 450-490 lbs/ft. my 2014 powerstroke is 800 lbs/ft bone stock

Over all the extra expenses of a buying a diesel, and owning one, it makes more sense to buy a gasser. Plus, with all the new towing extras you can get on the new gassers, there's almost no difference in the towing. The only thing a diesel wins in nowadays is retail value. Although, in my heart I will still always love the diesels more.
