PAINTING SOME DECOYS
"Hey, I'm thinking about painting some decoys. Anybody ever done it?"
-Yep, wash them good first, and get all the old paint off. Then use Krylon for Plastic.
-I didn't wash mine good enough, and the paint flaked.
-I did, and they look great. I used Rustoleum
-Never done it. Gonna follow this thread.
-Me either. Interested.
-Yep, like was said, it's all about the prep.
-You guys use acetone to clean them, or just wash them?
-Dawn
-Acetone
-Denatured alcohol
-Acetone here
-Just soap and water here
-Acetone for me as well
-I used the Krylon Ultra-Flat hunting paint on mine. Turned out great. Here's a pic.
-WOW! Those do look good. I'm going to try that. What did you clean them with?
-Denatured alcohol.
(two months later)
-Here's a pic of my finished decoys. I'm happy with how they turned out. I used acetone to clean, and Krylon Ultra-Flat paint. Doing the heads was tough, but I'm happy with how they came out. (pics)
-Look good man!
-They'll hunt!
-Good looking decoys!
-(thumbsup)
And that's what it would be over and over again. Thanks, but I've got a box of Saltines in the cupboard. Now, let's look at the alternative:
"Hey, I'm thinking about painting some decoys. Anybody ever done it?"
-Yep, wash them good first, and get all the old paint off. Then use Krylon for Plastic.
-Krylon sucks for anything but painting your name on the water tower. I just buy new Storm Fronts.
-Storm Fronts suck
-I've had Storm Fronts for 4 seasons, and they still look new.
-Of course they do, DH, because you never hunt
-Fuck you, Boot.
-I have Storm Fronts, too, and for the money, they're awesome
-Same here
-I didn't wash mine good enough, and the paint flaked.
-I did, and they look great. I used Rustoleum

- I kill all my critters with acetone. It keeps skunks from spraying when they're caught in a trap.
-Why would you want a skunk?
-I don't want to catch them, but when I do, if I can get the skunk essence out of the carcass, I can sell it for $30 an ounce
-What the hell do people want that for?
-Believe it or not, it goes into perfume, and a lot of other fragrances.
-No shit?
-No shit.
-Denatured alcohol
-Acetone here
-Just soap and water here
-Another vote for just buying new Storm Fronts. You can get them for $20 a dozen here http://www.evcoplastics.com/
-Holy crap, that's cheap. I picked up a parka for $10 and a pair of decoy gloves for $4! Thanks for the link!
-You wear gloves to pick up decoys? Pussy.
-Fuck you, it's cold in January.
-Good thing you don't have to pick up many dead ducks, DH
-Fuck you, Boot.
-Acetone for me as well
-I used the Krylon Ultra-Flat hunting paint on mine. Turned out great. Here's a pic.
-WOW! Those do look good. I'm going to try that. What did you clean them with?
-Denatured alcohol.
-Is that the stuff you feed to college chicks to make them get naked?
-No, that's chloroform
-I always get those two mixed up.

-Should've used choloroform

See! That's what I'm talking about! Dakotas look great, but I'd be hard pressed not to buy G&H.
