Nov 30th Litlle Rock radar.

"Noticed this on radar this morning. Look southeast of Little Rock. I thought it has to be birds or some kind. Ryan Vaughan thinks ducks and and snow geese. Whatever it is, this is pretty spectacular".

That’s cool. Thanks for sharing. Have heard goose numbers in that area are spectacular this year.

Blind is bailed, decoys are out, and the boat hide is covered. We didn't see but a handful of ducks today but that could be due to the young'uns to our east on other property running the marsh 24/7. I spoke to a guy brushing blinds about a mile to our west and that marsh was full. They have strict rules on that place and hold birds.

2nd split opens Monday, but I will not get to hunt until Friday.

Thank you!

Blake is doing great and should be ready to go in a couple of weeks or so. He's dealing with other things besides his health at the moment.

Glad to hear that your blind situation is finally in place, and hope you hammer them Friday when you are able to go!
Kids run surface drives here 24/7 as well, even in the closed areas. No rest for the weary, and the birds leave almost as soon as they get here nowadays.

I'll be heading to the camp this evening for my first hunt in our blind for the season, tomorrow morning. I'll have my lap top with me, so I'll type up my first season log tomorrow evening when I get a break. I have a few things to do to the screened area tomorrow, before the rains come in.

WHY?

Adam Einck
(225) 765-2465
aeinck@wlf.la.gov

For Immediate Release
Dec. 17, 2023

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited six South Carolina men for alleged migratory game bird violations in Plaquemines Parish on Dec. 17.

Agents federally cited Michael C. Bruce, 24, of Sumter, Hunter Segars, 27, of Sumter, and Michael Hobbs, 22, of Florence, for violating the migratory game bird treaty act for possessing over the limit of ducks, failing to comply with tagging requirements and transporting fully dressed migratory game birds.

Agents also cited Jackson Lowder, 20, of Bishopville, Bruce and Hobbs for not possessing a non-resident hunting license or state duck stamps. Bruce and Hobbs were also cited for not possessing federal duck stamps.

Agents also cited Joshua Collins, 21, of Lexington, for transporting fully dressed migratory game birds. Peyton Godwin, 21, of Darlington, was also cited for possessing over the limit of migratory game birds.

Agents were on patrol near Venice when they contacted the men returning from an evening duck hunt in Tiger Pass. During questioning, agents discovered that some of the men did not possess the correct licenses and stamps to hunt ducks in Louisiana.

Agents then found the men in possession of 51 migratory game birds with some completely cleaned without any identifying wing or head attached.

All federal cases are filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution in Federal Court.

Over the limit of migratory game birds and transporting fully dressed migratory game birds brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense. Failing to possess a non-resident hunting license and state duck stamp carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.

Agents seized the 51 migratory game birds and donated them to a local charity.

Participating agents in this case are Lt. Adam Young, Senior Agent Heather Fitzgerald and Agent Austin Wiles.

Glad to see they are checking, and I heard this year they are cracking down on hyped up surface drives as well. Something about 3rd party mufflers maybe? I didn't get the full story, but heard there have been a lot of tickets written down there.

I do believe they are ticketing anything other than stock mufflers on public land. Some of those things are really too loud.

It's a slight change in lifestyle for me for sure but I understood and was ready for what was on the way. I just wish the timing would've been bit better. Now that duck season is closed I can focus on only her training going forward. We had a good weekend with multiple long walks daily, running through deep water puddles. We worked on a couple of basic commands as well. She's definitely a water dog. She's has a good start on some basic commands such as sit and here. I just need to remind myself constantly to be patient as she's just a small, very energetic ball of fur that I need to slowly mold into my hunting partner.

With limited daylight in the evenings I haven't much time to do a lot when making time for my old gal Ellie as well. I'll work on fetch in the house in a narrow corridor until she understands what I'm looking for then we'll bring it outside. I'm really enjoying the training and seeing the little progress thus far. I've seen a couple of videos of her littermates that are more advanced in their training than Remi, but I have no doubt they've spent a lot more time training with those pups than I have with Remi. I need to get down to business.

Didn't see her biting, let alone grabbing and running with, anything she shouldn't during that short time, so there's that.

Fun times well worth the interrupted nights and punctured hands are coming.

I quickly remove anything she would attempt to grab and run with.

And the hands.... Old people skin is thin and no match for razor teeth.

Cool look at the past. Hurricanes have always been a part of life on the coast.

Louisiana's coast is one of the most unique in the United States. Along our coastlines are several islands, some inhabited, and some that used to have residents but are now deserted. Louisiana's coastline is a significant and unique geographical feature in the United States, characterized by its extensive wetlands, bayous, and delta regions.
Our wetlands support a wide range of wildlife and are vital for many species of birds, fish, and other wildlife.Louisiana's coastline and wetlands are also extremely vulnerable to strong storms and hurricanes, the later of which is why this Louisiana island remains deserted to this day.
Isle Dernière, or more commonly known at Last Island, was actually once a vibrant, upscale resort style community. "The Last Island was home to over 100 beach houses, resorts, and gambling dens in the 1800s. It was such a popular winter destination among the wealthy that there was a regular steamer service between the mainland and the Island."
All was going great for Louisiana's high-class island getaway until 1856. On August 10, 1856, the island was hit by was is called The Last Island Hurricane, a storm so devastating it physically split the island in half.

Read More: Louisiana's Largest Deserted Island | https://talkradio960.com/ixp/33/p/louis ... m=referral

At one time, Louisiana’s coast was a white, sandy beach and blue-water destination. An oasis for the rich and powerful sugar planters. But the beauty of this paradise and the wealth of its visitors provided no protection from the deadliest storm to hit Louisiana’s coast. This unnamed storm that erased the summer resort of Last Island, Isle Dernière, was the worst to hit Louisiana until Hurricane Laura in August 2020.

I met a ship captain from S. LA, right after Katrina. He showed me some pics of the devastation in his home area and remarked that most of the remote areas will never come back. So many displaced people, and their way of life, very sad! Like he told me, "I can afford to rebuild, but most of these folks can't".

The restrictions or codes put in place in SW la the last few years are cost prohibitive for most. They've rebuilt further inland. Taking FEMA money has it's consequences.

The history of Louisiana's lost barrier islands and the resort life thereof is some really interesting stuff. Even Cat Island where we camp off MS coast used to have a big hotel/casino, etc. Last Days of Last Island is a good read.
