I've got the boat loaded with blind stuff and decoys, ready for our trip down there on Friday afternoon. DOTD is starting a culvert replacement tomorrow 11/4 on hwy 82 which will close my usual route. This project is just 7 miles east of the camp. It will be closed during the weekdays and open on weekends. I'm going to chance it and hope they have it open by mid-afternoon on Friday. I don't feel like diverting to the only other route down there. The Friday opening time shown on the DOTD website has 11:59 PM. I'm going to bet those workers will get it ready and open much earlier than that. The construction completion date is Friday 11/13.
There hasn't been any measurable rainfall in our marsh, so when Blake went by our launch area last Friday he sent me pictures while claiming we had plenty of water. I had my suspicions, so I sent a text to someone that would know about our water level situation. To keep it short, the salinity was checked outside the control gate and was measured at 20 PTT. Our inside salinity was measured @ 50 PTT. Without the possibility of any major rain events in the near future, the decision was made to let water in at the set level for that marsh. This will allow many duck hunters access to their blinds.
I'm not expecting much from this season, and the only bright side is we now have enough water for the crab traps. It's going to HOPEFULLY be the highlight, that, and fishing. I've grown tired of the fight.
