Thank you very much Deltaman, I do appreciate the comment...

I have a little bit of work to do today and then I'm going to pack the truck, tomorrow morning we're going to go find some quail for a few days...
Little Moe has been a trooper lately, he deserves a chance at these wild fowl that we all love to Chase...

thanks for asking 5 stand ,i guess ill start by saying this has been a very stressful year for me i lost my brother, my dog dayzeemay ,and i just found out olive tested positive for heartworms, she goes in tuesday for her first shot of 3, ive heard treatment is hard on them she will have to be inactive for the whole process so she will be out of action this season, ive not dealt with heartworms before so this whole thing has me worried, shes a good girl very obedient and loves to retrieve hopefully ill have a positive outcome i sure dont want to lose another pal.

I had to go through that heart worm thing with my Ellie several years ago. It was a nervous time for me but she handled the procedure like a champ. All is good and she is aging gracefully. Shell be 16 in February.

Don't know what course your vet is taking, but do know more recent treatment is less taxing than what they used to do.

With Roundup ready crops, there is no such thing as what I would call a dirty (trashy) field anymore, they are clean and void of everything but the crop... So in my mind the only bugs that are there are the bugs that like that particular crop... Another form of habitat loss?

In 2004 when I started going to South Dakota there were sunflowers and wheat East River, no such thing anymore it's all corn or beans... I do find some small grains West River, and pork chop talks about small grains in North Dakota, so it's out there but I just don't think it's in the numbers that they use to be...

The town that I stay in has two new drain tile companies that I noticed this year... All the little places in the middle of the fields that mama duck raises her babies in them cattails are slowly being drained...

I know that probably reads like a bunch of ramblings, and it is, but hopefully you get my drift... It's more than likely as good as it's going to get, go hunting, it's the good old days right now...

When I used to pheasant hunt, corn fields were great habitat with some amount of ground cover throughout. Now as you point out, it's bare dirt except for the corn.

And with the high corn prices (one of the many negative effects of ethanol), they mow the ditches, drain every wet spot, ... And in the winter, it's a barren wasteland for wildlife.

We've received some pretty good showers around here today, and this evening... Looked at the radar, and it looks like it's pissing and pouring down there ?

Got what we needed in August all at one time last night. Might not fill anyone's marsh but ought to be a fine start.
