American shad. Their running up the Delaware to spawn now. Great fighting fish. I hook em and let the little guys reel em in, they love it.

Yes they do. The fine folks at MD DNR have closed shad to harvest. Just because, I guess, since there is no apparent reason that anyone around here can figure out.

Pick up a book called "The Founding Fish" by John McPhee.

Good read about those little bastages.

What do you guys use for shad on the east coast. We use little pan fish jigs here.

Not here. Shocking. I do believe the People's Republic of Maryland has surpassed California. If it wasn't for all those fed dollars surrounding DC, we'd be just as broke as you, too.

I cut them into chunks, like you would steak a salmon, but three or four inches long. I boil them with potatoes and a whole onion. Doesn't sound like much I know, my uncle kept tellling me to try it for years. It tastes great. But my favorite part is the roe, fried up.

Pretty slow out there. ended up 5 for 7 and kept a coho and a king releasing the football browns. Those fish are descaled by the way. Lake was weird. Glass a half mile off and small chop between land. Not much color in the water and we didn't realize the warmer water wasnt hugging the shoreline until it was too late. Lox here I come.
