I love black raspberries. One of these days I'm gonna turn one of those old dishes into a layout boat.

Milo likes to pick and eat berries too. He watched me...picks a ripe one a picks it and eats it.
Milo is not a dumb dog.
Took 7 min to get home. Not far at all.

In my op.
To the right is south. Notice the pine trees? Hard to see. There is a double row of pines.
Best place possibke to grow the raspberries is on the north side of pines.
Keep this in mind when you look for berries. (Or plant them)
We planted those but they are wild berries.
This is why...FAT berries.
Flash dont do em right.
Up since 5:30...time for first cup of coffee.

A really good tip for you berry pickers. Oxy-clean gets out the stains.
Another tip specific to black raspberries:
The branches get the berries on the tips. They get heavy and bend over.
Thats how the plant self seeds and "hides" fruit from birds.
The tip...get down on your knees and look up into the briars. Tons of missed berries in there.
Be careful or you smash berries with your knees...see tip one.

We call those black caps here, what we call blackberries, the center stays in them when picked, blackcaps is just the berry that comes off the center.

Hmmm, maybe that's the difference now that I think about it. Blackberries don't have the center thing, it's just all berry where as raspberries you pull off the center cone.

Yes. Blackberries are different. These are stickerbushes. Like gently fighting a rose bush to get 'em.
Raspberries are hollow inside.

With all the rain and continued springlike weather I am swamped with berries. We just picked 18 pints this morning and only did two patches. Never have had this much fruit.

2) rubus occidentalis
3) rubus coreanus

I have all three species of black raspberries. I thought you were smart.

Blackberries and Black Raspberries are not the same thing apparently. Both are members of the Rubus genus.

I have blackberries. They are large. I dont bother picking them. The birds eat those I think.
There are some gooseberries but I dont know which is which. I do know the blackberry spot. Will go see if I can take pics of both to show the difference.
