Don't know about that, but it was a neat place to hunt them before the bottom dropped out in the '80s.

Unfortunately I've never seen it back in the prime, but my dad and uncles talk about it. My uncle was teaching school over there back in the 70's and said it was incredible, ducks and geese.

Puddle duck hunting was already history when I hunted the Shore in '80, '81 and '82, and divers were said to be close behind. But there were geese everywhere and a crab bisque at the Warf in Chestertown you could stand a spoon in.

There's a fairly healthy winter population of Canadas on the eastern shore now. They've been coming back in some good numbers the last few years. The Greater snows make up for the lack of giant numbers of Canada geese. Still plenty of Black ducks too. Divers are there for the fast action shooting if you are willing to scout and hunt layout rigs away from everyone else. (our boys love that type of hunt) Lots of work hunting the ESVA but worth it when done right.

The geese are still thick as molasses around Chestertown, but for some reason, the mild winters keep them from making it much farther. Easton/Cambridge used to have numbers like Chestertown, and still do very well, but nowhere like what they get from Chestertown north. I was up there two winters ago, when we were in the middle of our first "drought" down here on the lower shore due to warm weather, and just 2 hours away in up there, you never would've known it. Hardly worth the effort of setting out all those decoys to limit out in 15 minutes on the first flock.

Hell-fuck-no! I love how they put "Our Low Price" on there. I wanted to punch those fuckers when I saw them at SHOT Show this year. Price gouging cowards.

Anyway, $99.97 for the lot, couldn't pass it up.

Ya, couldn't really pass it up, best I could figure it's about $150 value in a regular market.

Grizz, best thing to do is to call the companies and see if they will send you a call to try because they are not available in your area. Leave your card number with them and whichever you don't send back they can charge you for that one. I know lynch mob does this and I am pretty sure GK will as well if you ask. I have never dealt or called with a shore thing spin can't put any advice on that. I have used the XXX and I really liked that call but I traded it out a while back. I mainly run GK but that is what works for me and may not suit you. Give them a call and try a bunch out, you will never know what fits you best until you run a bunch of them. As far as what the call will be used for, I love BEM for water and fields where there may be an echo. Also it is all in the tuning in how a call will run and if it will be a screamer or not. If you need any help just let me know and I will gladly help you out in any way I can.

I could never tune that PCS low enough. I tried and tried, got it close, but was still to shrill. Never tried their Powerhouse, though.

Grizz, I'm a GVCC XXX fan, but favored a higher pitch even when living in giant Canada country. I've two XXXs, one tuned to suit me and our little Richardson's and one with Mark's/the shop's tuning for Richardsons, which I think too low even for the bigger birds. If Mark should balk at letting you try a call, I'd be happy to loan you the lower pitched one he tuned to see what you think of it. Be advised, though, that the Power Hunter Assa mentioned is GVCC's lowest pitched and said to be easiest to run call.

(Haven't had a Shore Thing, but my GK Canuck is for sale if anyone's looking. "Number 39 of 100" from their first run: $100. The XXX just fits me the best of the several Canada call makes and models I've tried.)

I might have to take you up on that Rick, been really looking at getting a Canuck for this year, although I'd likely have to trade, wife will likely kill me if I buy another call.

I just picked up a Canuck, and while it is high pitched, that call and my c&s apostle call were the only two that I own that could get the any reaction from the geese on the pond. The gk does a better job of the higher pitch honk and cluck in my mind, but I have a harder time getting murmers out of it than the c&s. Also, the c&s takes a lot of air, the gk I'd say is middle ground, and my lmc slipknot that I picked up might honk if you move it thru the air quicker than a snails pace
