Yeah it was probably about an 8 footer, I figure.
I was swinging flies on the Cowlitz a few years ago and snagged some 40lb mono, so I decided to hand-line it all in to get it out of the river. It came up tight and I figured I'd beak it, but noticed that it was moving up stream, slowly but steadily, with out any throb or pulse like a fish, just like it was hooked to a slow moving train. I wrapped the line around a stick and held it until whatever was pulling broke the line. I figured it was a huge sturgeon.
