Predators aren't any smarter than other animals. Could easily argue the oppostie. They have all the tools and a lot of them still starve to death. Not nearly the will to live that a deer or a rabbit has.

Shoot a coyote in the ass and it starts flopping around and biting the air, shoot a deer in the ass and it runs 3 miles with a shattered pelvis.

More than a few nice bucks have lived longer lives by being smart enough not to stop to see what happened to the doe they were with. As with red fish, I cull for the table rather than the camera when given the option.

But time and opportunity aren't what they once were for me, and I'm going to pop the first three or four that give me a chance. Other than the meat, the best thing about deer hunting is that I'm not disappointing anyone if nothing shows.

Coon and porcupine are definitely the toughest animals I've ever killed. last porcupine I shot took 4 loads of 1 1/4 6s to get it out of the tree and another to finish it off.

Really? Never had one die easy. Tried to kill one with a bow once too...bad idea. Put 2 field tips it it and a junk broadhead. Ended up having to climb down outa my tree to beat it with a log so it would quit growling. Bastards are tough.

Haven't seen one up close in some time, but don't remember quills of that diameter.
