Yall seriously have porcupines? I want some quills out of one. Been looking all over for them and cant ever find any. They make some of the best damn crappie corks on the face of the planet.

Too bad they're all hibernating or whatever.they do in the winter. You can't drive five minutes here in the summer without seeing a roadkilled porcupine

Do they have 1/4"-3/8" quills on them?

What do you do with them?

i'm wondering who the fuck thinks it's a good idea to try and skin a porcupine in the first place. i did it once but was drunk, so maybe that's why i had to get the fucking thorns removed from my hand by a doctor.

In the north you may call them bobbers or floats but in the south we call them corks. Commonly used bobbers or floats down here were made from actual cork so we call them corks.

That's what I figured.

The quills on the porkys I've killed wouldn't float the smallest hook, much less any kind if crappie rig.

You get one of the bigger quills, put a split shot just big enough to hold it upright, and then put a minnow on a gold Aberdeen hook with slack for it to swim freely with hardly any resistance. During crappie breeding season, big females will absolutely smash that setup.

That's all we use all summer long. We use the littlest stick bobbers we can find.

I've never seen a 1/4" porcupine quill. Fishing for crappie is one of the most boring things I can think of.

You've never got into a mess of them then. It is very exciting jigging along the bank for them.

I have fished for them at night on Belton Lake at Fort Hood Texas using minnows for bait, caught about 30 while drinking beer and swatting mosquitos. Most boring fishing I have ever done.

Setting a hook on a crappie is not the same as setting the hook on a big blue. I like to actually catch them, not end up with a pile of fish lips.

And I use an 8-11 foot rod with less than 4 foot of line run out. Plenty of buffer space.

Clearly you need to watch more fishing shows. If you don't almost throw out your back setting the hook, you are doing it wrong

If we are talking meat hunters than it would be goose hunters hands down.

15 A day at say at minimum 2 lbs a bird. 30Lbs a day by 25 days. More meat than you will get out of any other hunting here.

Maybe. I have seen people set the hook like that on crappies in the boathouse. Fish have been launched out of the water and into the tin roof before. It's quite comical.
