Have to admit I've not been following this thread too closely and find myself wondering if Sammy is another cursed traveler? Just got a call telling me I had folks to hunt this afternoon, which is information we usually get when checking in after the morning hunt. And no one was able to reach me later to rectify that oversight, because my cell phone had died and was on the charger most of the afternoon, and young grand daughters here for the holidays had the house phone off the hook. Knew Flightstopper was planning an afternoon hunt during his stay, and I'd asked yesterday if it was this afternoon but was told Saturday.

Don't know if it was he and the Mrs I missed this afternoon, but it could be we're off to a rocky start. Might ought to see if that box is ticking...

I think it's cursed. The West Coast taveler has seen a lot more blood. Sammy seems to be great at keeping the ducks away!

You are just not using it right, you gotta get creative with your decoys! Put Sammy 200 yards away from the blind, or loan it to guys hunting near you. Good luck!

I constantly killed ducks when I can back from the NCH over Sammy.

The good news is that I talked to Flightstopper on the phone, and it wasn't he and the Mrs. I unknowingly stood up. The bad news is that there's still someone out there who was disappointed. Jury's still out on Sammy...

We just made it safe to the hotel after our haul from Texas so Sammy can't be all that bad. If he brings the curses of travelers past then we will seek out a voodoo Queen over lunch.

Sammy's ride:
Image

(Someone said something about changing boxes changing luck and Sammy did alright by us, so he's going out the way he came in.)

He started his day hanging out with the poule d'eaus in the Mudhole, and we started ours with this sweet pelt on my in-blind trap line. Assa and Jr. ain't got pecans on Sammy and me:
Image

And our morning hunt was enough better than the rest of the marsh's that folks were only half kidding about procuring gulls of their own:
Image

The afternoon goose hunt, however, was, through no fault of Sammy's, a different story:
Image

I called in Flightstopper's first specklebelly for a nicely made layup before I was even in the blind with them, and everything looked set for a sweet and easy afternoon shoot: good wind, birds moving and a number of nearby bodies of birds.

Then Mrs. Flightstopper went and did it. She'd been told about the consequence of stating "This ain't my first rodeo." but, like Eve who just had to try that damned old apple that was the only thing forbidden her, she just had to give it a go. Even thought it was cute. And the wind stopped dead, the birds stopped trafficking and, just like that, we went from hunting to having a pleasant visit in the field. Was dang near sunset when we scratched our second goose out of a flight that should have yielded at least a couple more:
Image

Flightstopper had no trouble at all identifying the source of our ill fortune:
Image

Hated that our goose luck soured, but it was still a great day with a couple of great kids who are more than welcome to share my blind anytime. And I'm certain the coyote would feel the same, even if Mrs. Flightstopper hadn't bought him a box of Milkbones.

We passed a fine time.

Oh, and, Flightstopper, assa's nemesis is spelled paille-en-tchew

Whether Sammy makes it out again will depend on who I'm hunting the next couple mornings, as the gunning's been slow enough that I'd rather not give strangers reason to think I'm not taking their success seriously. Most of my regulars, however, will be fine with it, so we'll see...

Then it'll be on its way to Olly after I'm back from Monday morning's hunt.

It pained me not to scratch a speck from the second flock but fate had been set. We had a blast and was well worth every mile covered to get here. Rick is top notch as was expected and was neat to watch him work on his home turf.

One thing is for sure is you have fueled another specklebelly fiend. Seeing a group work in to the call got the heart ticking. Although any wanna be rodeo clown will be politely kicked out in town, from a moving vehicle.

Early season, uneducated bird limits. You stole Sammy's mojo with those trash ducks!

What do you know about grizzlys Haynes?!?!

It was the arrow, not the Indian. And by arrow, I mean horrible weather with the ice...

Was supposed to be VIPing folks new to the camp this morning, left Sammy in the truck and had a super sloooow hunt. So it must have been either he of Mrs. Flightstopper who was good luck for us yesterday, and given her rodeo stunt, I'd say it was Sammy.

Just sent Sammy off to Olly but am still trying to get pics to Flightstopper. Apparently can't read my own handwriting, check your e-mails, Jason. Would tickle me to see you folks again, passed a fine time.

I'm just as suprised you showed up for evening hunt after being stuck with us all morning! Been day dreaming since we hit I-10 of the next trip out to your little piece of heaven. Was well worth every mile driven to get there to hunt with you and Peake.

Had to search this entire thread to find evidence of FF and I hunting that day. He is a very good writer and described the day perfectly. I signed Sammy.
Thanks for being...you FF. Best hunting buddy I ever had.

Note to all:
I have hunted with many folks over the years. Feelin Fowl is top notch!
Welcome in my blind anytime, anywhere.
If you ever get a chance to take him hunting, just do it. Great team player.
