I had to get Layniebug to take the pic, because it would've been dark before the wife got home. She did pretty well. I even let her take a couple with the wife's camera, which pleased my wife to no end. Probably why I did it, subconsciously.

Another day of nothing. I can't say I expected much, with the rain then snow all day yesterday.

It would've been nice if my tax dollars paid for a little salt on the roads, though

It was a nice morning for a walk, but I did get a little cold by the time I finished my rounds. Actually a lot cold.

It was nice to get home and see the flag proudly blowing in the sunshine

He has a buyer, gets up to $50 for a bobcat and otter are $35-$50. What are the auctions bringing on them?

Prob a little more but your fur isn't high dollar compared to other places. A lot of cats here bring over 1000$

Otters from here are around $180. We're not allowed cats, but the West Virginia guys get around $290 for bobcats.

Wow that would make it totally worth it. They are thin here, nowhere near as thick as up north.

The ones from further out west can bring closer to $500.

I wish the furs here were thick/full enough to bring in that kind of money.

Do you also wish Louisiana would get below zero a lot of the winter? Cause that's what it would take. Lol

Where it's cold, I think. I can't remember what the grades were- if they were like foxes, or like coons.

Oh I know that and it'd be miserable. I like winter and cold but not to the point that big little bodies of water freeze over.

I don't think it's that bad to have a little lesser quality down there. You guys have big numbers of fur to make up for it. I believe western heavies were around 800$ avg last year assa. I know the buyers are still breaking 1000$ on the gd cats here. I need to catch one of those fucking things! Lol

Holy shit. I believe every one of my sets would be cat sets. Surely you can still catch coons in them, right?

And nothing in the rat traps today. Set a couple more after I got the well pump running again.

Put dive sticks on them like this. Hopefully it's right.

Now that I saw it, it's a terrible pic. The trap is on the far bank. The ditch is about 8 feet wide, but is only about 4 inches deep until you get to the far bank. There, it's cut down to a channel about a foot wide and a foot deep, under the overhanging bushes. I broke off a bunch near either end, and pulled then down so they sat on too of the trap, and extended into the shallow water. We'll see tomorrow.

And this girl was lucky I didn't have my .35 with me, instead of just a beating stick. If she would've let me get close enough, I would've tried the rebar, though.

Hammer and hoe wasn't satisfying enough?

If I had more cats close by I would set for them. If I want a good chance I need to go a couple hours away. Do you see any spots that look like mini slides around that ditch. Are there any logs sticking out of the water that have crap on them?

I haven't caught shit in 3 weeks. I only trap 2 farms at a time, rotating between the 5 I have that are close. I only run a dozen leg holds and some snares- I just don't have the time before work in the morning to check more than that. But really, it wouldn't matter now. Something's going on around here. My neighbor rubs about 80-90 sets, and has only been getting 1 a day for the last 3 weeks, also. Last year, he had 340 red foxes by Christmas. This year, 132. And everybody's finding the sane thing. Tons of sign, tracks right by the sets, but no interest no matter what the bait or lure. It seems like 3 weeks ago the foxes turned on their "don't give a fuck" radar or something. It's pretty discouraging. And all my coon traps are under 5 foot deep snow drifts along ditch banks now- can't even find them.
