It's efficient enough to kill elk and bust the 4" gong all day long at 300.

I once shot a nut out of a squirrels mouth at 1k with a .22. In all seriousness though 300 is nothing, I play kid games at that distance. When you step up to the big boy games I will put a M24 in your hands and then we will talk.

i found a rem 700 action over at my dads shop. trued it up, stuck a shilen 7 twist on it, jewel trigger and McMillan stock. its a damn fine rifle. but i still say you are a better shot then what your rifle is.
i havent gone full on crazy looking for the right load yet. i did take that fast twist tube so i could use the longest bullets i can get my hands on. it was a fun project and im glad i did it, i thought it would be pure luck with the little fucker but you changed my mind!!

I'm sure your $1000 M-24 put 3 shots under 1.25" at 300. But my Ruger American in .270 Winchester does that and I got it for dirt cheap. I also have a Smith and Wesson 1500 Deluxe in .25-06 Remington that will put 5 inside a dime at 100.

Mine was issued there youngster and I can promise you that I am just as deadly with it as I am any other weapon you put in my hands. That is the difference. Give me any weapon for an hour and I can make a group at 300 that isn't difficult. Step up to 1000 and your fundamentals come into check.

efficient does not equal accurate. and your 4 inch gong dont impress anyone here.
hell boy, dead eye dan has a 223 that he his the steel at 1k.i put together a nasty little fucker in 223 because of his. i may not hit the plate at 1k with it on the first shot but i can with the 2nd or third shot. .223 isnt made for that shit. now my stuff thats made for the 1k game is a different story 4 and 5 inch groups at 1100 yards.

An I'm sure you put a lot of money, time, an effort to get your rigs to shoot like that. I have interest in shooting hunting rifles for groups. Believe me, if my range went to 1,000, I would be shooting that far but Prickley pear only goes to 300. Besides, 300-500 yards is as far as I care to shoot deer at, and 300 yards for elk.

our varmint rifles shoot almost as well as our comp Benchrest rigs. shooting sod poodles(head shots :D ) at 700 meters cold dirty bore. have shot them out past 1300 but it took a few shots to get them.

So your telling me you'd make me a a 28" 2.125" tube that had cut rifling with a match chamber, chambered in a 284/27 Wildcat with 9 5/8" twist screwed into a tried and tuned Nesika bay action with left port, right eject with side bolt release and Jewell trigger set at exactly 5 ounces with slight creep and absolute no over travel. With the bolt having a match bolt head with the bolt face being trued with handlapped locking lugs. Bedded into a McMillan benchrest stock with glass bedding, action, recoil lug and barrel. That has a night force 80x60 power target dot reticle with the parallax knob and all. What's the cost?

Everything can be custom made, remember that....
I don't need a damn benchrest rig nor do I want to shoot in benchrest matches because of assholes. How many $300 hunting rifles do you have that don't have any custom shit that can shoot groups like I have posted?

3 a single shot .223, savage weather warrior zero'd at 600 and a ruger #1 7 mag. No need to get pissy Rex, a modern standard issue M4 can put a 1.25" group at 300 in the right hands.

So what would be involved in a benchrest rifle your talking about that would shoot 1/16 MOA at 1000?

started shooting f class and benchrest and nra high power when i was young i shot camp perry once
to me its as much the making of a rifle as it is the shooting one..... rifles are serious life is just a game

I pull my center fire out for 2 weeks for gun season, then it goes back away. Never got into competition shooting.

Mine bounces around in the back of the truck when I'm not at school. Gets sighted in right before deer season and then back behind the seat when not in use.

It's funny, when Mike and I went down to this range the first time we both had 7.62's that we wanted to see what we could do.

It was fairly breezy and we finally got dialed in and had (iirc) about 31-33moa of windage dialed in shooting 168 & 175gr SMK's and this guy next to us was shooting his 223 with 75gr Swift's and had less than half of the dope we did.

My eyes were opened that day.
