Go get you some yooper snow and then talk about 2WD.

I gotta say my grand cherokee was a badass vehicle in yooper snow with the 4 full time engaged. Fucker never got stuck! I kinda miss it. I'm planning on buying a truck this spring but I'd be hard pressed to pass on another grand cherokee

All roads in northern MI and the UP turn to 6 inches of ice by spring time.

I thought that was a given, captian badass.

Hell yes. You lock that shit in beforehand and get it. Also if you load down the bed of a truck your aces.

No it's called knowing how to drive.

Back end of a jeep only has to slide a few feet before your past the point of no return. With a truck you have a LOT more play with your backend before it gets too far around to stop it.

Ok. The corollary to that is that due to the shorter wheelbase, a Jeep is less likely to begin the spin in the first place. So you're arguing that it's better to have a vehicle which is MORE inclined to spin, because it can spin further before reaching the point of no return. I see.

Exactly

How the fuck are you supposed the let that back end drift out if you weigh it down. The whole point of driving in the snow is to slide all over the place.

My bad. From what I've heard from other people it is different ice for us down south. There is nothing to hold on to so its just slick with no grip. Just what I've heard. Compared to what I've driven on at home and what I did up here it is a lot harder to drive on ice in Texas.

Mechanical Engineer says...a vehicle with a square footprint ie wheel base = axle length is very stable.

If you're buddy had trouble spinning in his jeep...he's a dipshit and don't know a damn thing about driving a 4x4.

Getting a little snow up north actually makes the roads better. The ice roads suck

I've seen kids play in hockey in the road with actual ice skates. When it would snow up there that always meant you GAINED traction on the paved roads.

Nooooo!

I live 15 miles off the lake, just far enough for the snow to hit high gear.

Ice is ice I would think. But with a little snow on top it is better than just glass.
We got a bad ice storm just south of us early this winter. It was too cold for salt to work and the roads were like glass. I'll see if I can find a pic. It was pretty cool.

Interesting you say that, cause its the people visiting from the north that bitch the loudest when the ice hits.

32 degree ice is 100 times slicker than 0 degree ice.
I think that's what we're trying to say.
The microstructure of ice (and snow) changes with temperature.
That's why Eskimos have many different words for ice and snow.
They got it pretty well figured out.

The roads in Arkansas are not smooth, level, straight, or true. They get ice storms. I don't care how good you think you are at driving on ice and snow...just don't do it in Arkansas. Don't even try (I have).
It's not that they can't drive...its usually 32 degree ice, slicker than shit, and Shitty roads.
Stay home.
Dead serious.

With the traffic jams and accidents that came with the one snow fall a year, I wished they would every time it happened.

You break better?

Does 4 WD engage extra brakes or widen your tires?

What you just said breaks the laws of physics.

And if you don't need 4 WD and you are using it, you are doing two things... Using extra gas and shortening the life of your truck.

the siping allows better traction on snow and ice, therefore your tires don't break free and lock up. so yes, you brake better with siping.

if you compromise better traction for gas mileage, something you paid for and are literally are burning up anyway, you're retarded. i doubt you're shortening the life of a vehicle by using 4 wheel drive.
