I was friends with a buncha private school kids growing up...kids who went to private schools through the 12th grade. I did 7 years in a private Catholic school. I can't really say if it was better than the public school, because I was a child and more worried about hiding my boogers where the teacher wouldn't see.
When I got mixed with the plebeians in high school, the ratio of public school dummies and dummies that came up with me was about the same.

i went to school with a shit ton of mexicans, they were the cause of nearly all problems in that school. I wasn't learning anything because the classes were just one giant interruption.
I used to genuinely enjoy learning though.
