Camo Patterns

Postby Romo » Sun Feb 02, 2014 9:14 am

Does anyone believe there's a need for a new waterfowling camo pattern? If so, what do you think works or doesn't work? Do you think the camo should be contrast and confuse or photorealism. What do you like and dislike? Realtree, Mossy Oak, Optifade?

Let me expand on this topic. What about a wading jacket or parka? What features would you guys like to see? What likes and dislikes do you have about gear from Drake, Cabelas, Browning, UA, Sitka?

Sounds like you are looking to possibly introduce a new product for hunters. If so bring out something like the old Columbia Parks made of Gortex with the removable lining and zip on/off hood. Leave out the worthless "shell loops". Draw string at the waist so that the bottom of the parka can be tucked under and held in place for wading deeper water.

For me, the issue is quality. I don't give a damn what the pattern is if a $200 jacket either leaks or the zipper stops working after one season. This has become the norm rather than the exception, and I wish manufacturers would stop worrying about shine, and more about substance.

Windsheer (shear?) with 200 gram thinsulate.
Makes these and I'll buy four. lolImage
Thinsulate! Don't forget it.
This jacket is no longer made and is the best...

This. And then let the camo be good background, so the couple cat tails, rice, tules, or sticks in front of you look like they are just in front of normal things. Don't try to be the cover, just disappear behind your cover.

Base color with big patches of dark and light to break up your silhouette. Couple contrasting lines going across. New camo has too much shit going on in it and at about 10 yards away it just looks black.

But quality beats everything. I'll pay $500 for a jacket that will last 20 years. What pisses me off is buying a $200 jacket and getting 2 or 3 years out of it.

Also make a dog vest in this pattern. Another note on dog vests, not every hunting dog is a overweight retriever, vests that were made for in shape dogs would be cool too.

Saw a show on deer hunting once. They set up the blind but completely backwards on purpose and then hid in front of it.
It worked. Camo has to be perfect when u don't have a blind to hide inside of.
Inside a blind you can wear a black hoodie...barrel stickers and everything. :)

I figured something along those lines would come up. Or that not wearing camo is apparently not working.

Big pockets. Waterproof. Maybe something waterproof for a phone and wallet. I like a removable liner. Fleece lined hand pockets.

Make this with pockets. It's 100% waterproof/windproof and last forever.

If for a camo jacket, something with the quality and durability of columbia, the features of drake and the outer shell like helly hansen pvc(durable and for real 100% water proof). That would be my idea of a perfect camo jacket, that said I rarely wear camo.
