Anyone know where I can get a new Waterfowl dog?

Just had my very first waterfowl dog a brown lab named Dixie die 3 weeks ago of old age. I've had this dog since I was 5 and would like to get another one just cant find a place that sales them for a reasonable price. If you have any ideas of where I could get a well trained one for no more than 3,000$ in Oklahoma let me know.

American Classifieds or Craigslist and you could train it yourself for far less than 3k.

I thought about that but I don't really know how to train one real good. or any good books or dvds.

Water dog. A book, can't remember the author, helped me a ton. There are plenty of guys on here that could help throughout the process. Check out the dog forum and read through some of the post.

alright, I may have to take a look in to that book. I'm new to this forum stuff and don't really know to work it to well yet. The worst part about buying a dog off of craigslist or newspapers is you don't really know what your buying a mixed breed of Asian pit-bull/lab an abused piece of shit or something of that nature. That's whey was kind of wanting to buy one from a trainer so I'll kind of know where it came from. I'm not looking for a competition dog just want that know how to go get the birds and commands.

You can find them in classifieds where you can meet the owners and parents of the pups. In the dog buying process, remember you're the customer and if their business doesn't appeal to you go elsewhere.

What part of Oklahoma are you in?
Depending on what part you are in there might be some retreiver clubs close by that could put you im touch with some good breeders and help you with the training.

I'm located at Duncan. I've found a few places up around the Tulsa area but they want 5500 to 8500 a dog. that dog better do more than just squat and piss in my house if im going to pay that much

I've never heard of dogs costing near that much. A lab pup from a good breeder is isn't much over $500 here some get close to $1000. Get a couple books and DVDs, get the basic sit, stay, come down. Then take your dog to a class and get some professional help. My buddy did this with his lab and it is a pretty damn good dog for being less than a year old still. He had no training experience before that. I think your making more if of dog training that what is really involved.

If you're ready to spend that kind of money but a started dog over fully trained. Most breaders worth their salt will still help you with training, to a point.

Okie, you might also look outside OK. You can get a dawg shipped to you.
Labman63 on DHC is in NC and usually has a dog or two that he's training to sell as a started or finished dog. He's probably ship to you and I highly doubt it'd cost you $8k.
