Check the WCH thread. Red hosted the hunt, I stopped in Oregon and hunted with QH Paw/Banknote along the Columbia. Tripod and all the Cali guys were there. Fucking hilarious all of them.

What gets me is that most of them take longer and more work than it should. Crowns aren't hard to get off, I don't need to set up the skill saw to pop a top, not to mention half of them break the glass. I got a pretty tough stomach, but not tough enough to digest glass. Anybody that drinks out of bottles should be able to have the bottle open within 20 seconds of receiving the beer. Especially married guys with tungsten cobalt rings!

Hell, I made a bottle opener, too. It's REALLY multipurpose now. Welder, pipe deicer, bottle opener.

Do they still call them "church keys", or do I date myself by saying that?

One of my uncles used to call them that. Always had one in his pocket.

way b4 your time.
There was a time when pop n beer cans did not have a pop top. You had to poke the can open with the pointed end. It made a little triangle shaped hole. Poke two holes, one is the vent.
The square-ish end is for bottles.

The priests and nuns had such wild beer parties that the can opener became named the church key. ;)

I don't call them that but my old man still does.

So where did the "church key" term come from?

A churchkey is the opener used to open a flat top beer can. It’s called a churchkey for several reasons. The original openers used on bottles (before beer cans existed) looked similar to a large old fashion keys used by monks to open the church, as well as keep the precious beer they brewed safe. The name was then adopted to all tools used to open beer–with an ironic twist–for it is said if you used a churchkey opener (i.e. if you drank beer) you would be less likely to open the door of a church to attend service.
