Perhaps this is something that I did once that I've pushed to the back of my brain, but it should give you a pretty good idea of just how fucking important it is in the long run.

When I started my junior year at Chico State, I bought a pocket calculator for $99 that would add, subtract, multiply, divide and do percentage and square root. Everyone bitched because I could afford a pocket calculator about the size and thickness of a deck of cards and the weight of a half brick. By the time I graduated they were giving pocket calculators (that were about 10% of the size and weight of mine) for free if you bought a carton of cigarettes. Texas Instrument Calculators are great but also pretty common. It is far better to have an Asian nerd friend with one that can carry your books and do your homework for you with his or her calculator.
