I was rolling my own before I quit, a lot cheaper and better tobacco. It was also Mas Macho! And, just as glamorous as smoking in general.

Sometimes when you're driving along, notice smokers in other cars.........Most of them look pretty cool, some even down right glamorous. Look also at other smokers teef and hands, you cannot buy makeup that looks as realistic as nicotine stains nor can you buy perfume or cologne as attractive as stale tobacco smoke.

I quit over 7 years ago and still wake up occasionally wanting a smoke.

You quit smoking at 63? Seems like at that point I'd just keep on enjoying the cool freshing feeling from a smoke. It's been 3 years since I quit and I still find myself thinking about smoking.

I quit July 15, 2006. Gained 30 lbs that I started to loose yesterday. Yes, sometimes I wake up wanting a cigarette but others smoking doesn't seem to bother me. I just miss the glamour and how intelligent you look when you smoke.

I miss blowing smoke in peoples faces as the lectured me on the dangers of looking cool.
Tell your mom I said hi.

Jim was that you for real???
wow...stop taking walks Bro
glad you are ok

That was me, buddy. I had never gone down that particular trail, and it started winding upwards and turning first into a deer trail, then into a, well, cliff. Plus the bluffs were still pretty moist from rains a few days before, so my little trees wouldn't hold in the ground. Now, had I any sense I would've decided early on this was a fool's game and simply retraced my steps. But Noooooo. I got it in my head that I was on a mission and had met a challenge. Pretty much a Don Quixote frame of mind. Well, I tackled that challenge....and it kicked my ass!
Thanks though...everything turned out fine, and all the FD and rescue guys got a kick out of it! Especially my dog. I got a ride back to my vehicle with a FD Lt., and as he drops me off he says "Before you take off let me get a picture." Humbly, I say OK and go to stand there for the picture. He says "No, not you. Your dog!"

wow Jim. glad you got out of it alive.
now i need an autograph! when i see people on tv that i know, there are handcuffs involved :?

  Thanks one2M (?) I heard later that my neighbors could hear my wife hollering "Jump......Jump" around that time, but didn't know what she meant! Ingrate!

Glad everything worked out though.

Thanks 3 legged. I didn't think it was so bad when I thought it was part of the rescue. Then I realized it was a press helicopter!

Is it true you get a bill for the services, or is that just urban legend? Always wondered about that.

Don't really know. Just always heard you got a bill for search and rescue type deals. This might not really "qualify", though.

I can see you being extra cautious when pulling your shenanigans. Not for the sake of your safety just so you don't receive an extra bill in the mail.

I religiously pay my $25 yearly ambulance fund donation. For $25, if you have to call an ambulance, they pay anything not covered by insurance. And it may be surprising, but I've had to take an ambulance ride only twice so far. Once for a watermelon cutting experiment gone wrong, which left me with a boning knife stuck through my thigh, and once for a garden variety car accident.

It's worth $25 just to cover what that frigging welder of yours is capable of.

Speaking of ambulances...heard that the person who dials is the one who pays.
Is that true?

Not in my case. Especially the accident. I didn't call a fucking soul. Matter of fact, the guy driving was such a dick that I was hitting his quarter panel with a softball bat that fell out of the back when the ambulance showed up.

I think in that case, it'd have to be a $25 annual donation to a funeral home instead.

This guy doesn't seem too sharp, AT. Runs into you then provides you with a weapon! I kinda interrupted your flight details, AT. What was that like? Did you feel you were going down? And especially, what were the reactions of the other passengers? Ron White always cracked me up with his airplane story. "How far do you think we'll make it?"....."I'd say all the way to the scene of the crash!"

A few weeks back a kid went Kayaking down the Milwaukee river (flood stage) at night. He called his parents in the middle of night and his mom interpreted it as a distress call.

When a white kid is in trouble in the two-six-two, they bring out the big guns, helicopters, resuce dogs, boats on the river. Big deal.

They found him dry and safe camping in some woods along the river.

They had not decided if they were going to make them pay, but the article made it seem like it was on the table.

We had a bunch of watermelons. I'm talking, a LOT, which came from a watermelon field down the road. This was almost 25 years ago, so I'm sure the statute of limitations on drunken watermelon theft has expired. After eating a couple and putting vodka bottles in a couple, we had a shit ton left. So naturally, it becomes a drunken break fest.

First, it was stomping. Then throwing them at each other. Then trying to karate chop them mid air. Then roundhouse kick them midair. Then the knives came out, and it was trying to samurai them midair. (Mind you, there's a lot of drinking going on) I had about a 10 inch boning knife, and while trying to "stab" at a substandard throw by my assistant, I slipped in the 5 inches of slick watermelon remnant strewn all over the yard, and successfully stabbed myself in the thigh. Hard.

So there I was, still holding the knife, which was handle deep in my leg, with the tip out the other side, and nobody was sober enough to drive me to the hospital. So I'm sure there are still some ambulance guys telling that story, because it was a pretty "interesting" appearing scene when they got there. I was leaning on a tree, and everyone else was sitting around in lawn chairs drinking, surrounded by a yard full if destroyed melons.
