Android malware removal?

Postby Goldfish » Fri May 09, 2014 12:17 am

Like an idiot, I saw some weird link on a guys Facebook and I clicked it trying to figure out wtf it was. Well, I watched the address bar cycle thru about 5 different websites quickly and then download something. F me. Now if I'm using the web, I'll randomly get pop up crap telling me "your phone has viruses, click continue/ok to bla bla bla" at which point I either hit the back button or home. I just tried to factory reset my phone which was a p.i.t.a. and it still didn't get rid of it. My virus scanner isn't picking it out either. Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have insurance on it? Maybe you could have an "accident" with your phone.

Lol, it's an S2. No insurance. I've had it, and kept it clean (somehow) for something like 3 years, maybe more? I got it about 2 months before the S3 came out

I had that happen too but not on facebook.
Skipped through a bunch of sites and this weird "fix it" screen came up.
I suspected the "fix" was actually the virus so I tried backing out. Nope.
Had to close all windows, start over, and my droid phone is fine.

This screen...was all white text with black background. ..right?

I don't go thru phones very fast. I've had them for 12 years and only had 4. Two of those were unnecessary upgrades but nearly to get with the times (from a giant brick to a little phone, and switching to a smart phone)

It was actually a standard Android confirmation looking window, I just knew it was a "pop up" from what it said

Yup, I saw the exact same thing and ignored it.
I'm not letting a damned smart-phone tell me to download any patches until I hear about it from a live person.
Thinking about a foil phone cover called "fuck off apps".
