As far a I'm concerned, folding knives are ok for light use but if I have to do anything serious I get a fixed blade. I'm rather fond of my fingers.

I can open and close them one handed as well, still don't like it. I don't do much "serious" work with a knife, but otherwise I would agree. I think my next fixed blade is going to be a SOG Kiku, the micarta handle on them just feels badass in your hand.

Ya, we used to carry those goofy fuckers for a while, but it's not the mechanism I was thinking of. Those little bastards will make you feel stupid the first time you try to open/close them too! About like trying to fold up a spring steel blind your first time!

I only bought it because it was weird. Used to hand it to people and ask them if they could open it.

This is the one I'm talking about. It's a standard liner lock, but that little red button has to be pulled down before you can release the liner lock. Once you get the hang of it, it's not that difficult at all, but compared to the Axis lock, it'll make you feel like you are trying to unsnap a bra for the first time.

Wasn't trying to say you're rich if it came off like that. It's just a pricy knife that I'd like to have. It's tough fit me to justify a purchase like that these days...

One of the wholesalers we used to buy from had them on clearance for 5 bucks each, we bought a handful.

Or do you carry one for personal protection? That would honestly be my only use for one but I believe I am a tad to clumsy to have it be a effective means for protection.

I carry mine for personal protection and I use it at work a good amount. I'm just glad my school isn't totally communist. They still allow students to carry knives as long as the blades under 4", it's not a fixed blade, not spring assisted, and does not have a serrated edge.

That's actually pretty awesome Rex.
no kidding. I wouldn't have thought a school like that still existed in America

A lot of the reason is a lot of the kids are in the shop classes. Years ago kids couldn't have knives on school grounds but the shop teachers started getting annoyed and started complaining about their pocket knife being dull at the end of the day because 30 different kids used it. Plus even when there is 60% of the kids here carrying pocket knives, out of the two years I've been in high school, there have been 0 knife fights. It's been hammered before; more armed and safe people = less fights and violent crime.

This looks pretty cool.

piranha-2.jpg

The Piranha is a single-piece, multi-purpose pocket tool constructed from heat-treated, 100% stainless steel. A built-in rubber bit holder secures a Leatherman bit. Like the fish for which it's named, the Piranha pocket tool will help you get the job done quickly: tightening screws, loosening bolts, prying things open and popping the top on your favorite beverage. And, since you'll barely notice this super slim multi-tool in your pocket, it's perfect for everyday carry. It's also TSA-compliant so there is no need to worry about it when you board your next flight.
